ArchFan
Nice pics. Especially to see the former Sakowitz store. I have no idea of the likelihood, but i would love to see it reincarnated as some form of high-end retail.

Alec
Another angle from Friday. I don't think I quite captured it, but the little remnant of elevated walkway looks pretty goofy dangling over the work site.

Howard Huge
It's not terrible, I guess.Their mistake was trying to make it match with the rest of the pavilions.
Howard Huge
On a positive note, the entire pavilions is not inward facing anymore! Yay!
monarch
^^^what exactly has happened here? has the entire orientation of HOTEL ALESSANDRA been re-inspired? could this be a new rendering / concept / re-interpretation? what on earth is going on with this particular illustration? the hotel, actually look's better than before... is this the final design? waaaay too many questions here? why can't we ever reach a level of comfort with this very important development? Tumbleweed_Tx
A little birdie told me they haven't signed a contact for the builder yet, but they're 90% sure is going to be the guys drilling the 100 foot deep pilings. ....
BigFootsSocks
No need to sign anything until piling is significantly done

Luminare
So the company contracting the current demo is no the builder? What do 100 foot pilings mean, a taller building? @ question 1 Depends. Its probably all under the same general contractor, but the owner probably has a contract with someone else to do the demo. Its a bit complicated because there are various ways of doing this. Sometimes you can have one company do the whole thing (Skanska with the Capital Tower (im guessing here)) or bits and pieces. They probably hired a particular demo guy that might have specialty in selective demo. Depending on the building process the Owner choices to undergo an Owner can have contracts with multiple people from different companies. @ question 2 Pilings (or piers) are what go under a foundation to help stablize the building/ground floor plate. You will use pilings a lot in areas where you have highly active soils like here in Houston and most of the coastal plains for that matter. The more weight you are putting on a single site the deeper your piers have to go. We need Purdue in here to actually do the math/engineering, but know that pilings are buried into the ground and are not factored into the height or number of floors in the building. So that 100 ft is going all the way underground.
