samagon
When I saw the renderings, I immediately thought of the outdoor market in New Orleans.
Texasota
Just a permanent farmer's/flea market would be fantastic
Fringe
Almost went to the grand opening yesterday. Looking at that pic, I'm glad I didn't. Will be nice to have a second location away from the always congested Galleria area. Of course the Village isn't a whole lot better.
gene
the line for Hopdoddy wasnt too bad during non-peak hours yesterday...we got out of a movie yesterday around 540pm and the line was maybe 30 people long... and i heard later that night it wasnt too bad close to closing time. but cant wait to check it out! i have a feeling the village location will be more busy due to foot traffic and other things in that area...so far ROD is not getting much of that...well...not until Hopdoddy

Moonb007
At the rate they are working in the Village it's going to take 5 years before all this work is done. I figured we would see big changes over the summer before the holiday rush...guess not.
UtterlyUrban
Filson and Shinola? two American brands. One for bags of known reputation and quality (lifetime guarantee) made in America and the other for watches that are "sorta" American made (assembled in Detroit). good stuff.
monarch
^^^ houston is FINALLY getting its very own SHINOLA DETROIT. i thought that it would end up at ROD, but RICE VILLAGE beat them to it. what a coup!

Well, the latter-day Shinola is still selling shoe polish, so you'd assume that someone in the company has at least a passing familiarity with that old saying. I live in Metro Detroit. As of late this brand is the city's pride and joy, starting to eclipse The Big 3 somewhat.

Urbannizer
Austin-based Halycon and Stella Public House coming to Rice Village. https://app.microventures.com/crowdfunding/texas-zebo Quote Further down the line, Texas Zebo expects to open a Houston location in 2019-2020. Texas Zebo is already in talks with the developer of Rice Village, a shopping district that offers a mix of retailers, restaurants, and nightlife just minutes from Rice University. Plans are to build another landmark Halcyon and Stella Public House in the new Phase II development of that district.
swtsig
used to hit up halycon way back in the day when i lived in austin... it would a good fit for the village.
longcat
What's "the new Phase II development of that district"? Do they mean just the renovations, or is there something else afoot?
KinkaidAlum
Here's the biggest change coming as I just got notice via my neighborhood... no more free surface parking. All street parking in the Rice Village will become metered. Free parking will be moved to the roof.

Something like University, Kirby, Tangley, and Morningside?

Now it's just an outdoor galleria, or highland village without an apple store, but more bars.
Naviguessor
^^ Well...at least now you can pay for parking. Can't do that at the other places...unless your really want to.
mollusk
I agree with Sam. I haven't gone anywhere that's actually in the Village in ages... the stuff I'm interested in (El Meson, etc.) is across the street.
htownproud
It must suck to hate the most walk-able, mixed-use area inside the loop. and encouraging people to park in the designated garages instead of causing traffic on the surrounding streets and in the parking lots -- oh my, the horror!!
KinkaidAlum
The only thing in the Rice Village proper that I use is The Black Walnut. Shake Shack is coming though. El Mason is alright I guess. That said, for the area, there are still plenty of things I use as a local (walk or trike up there almost daily) including Gingerman, Food truck Wednesdays, Fundamentally Toys, Salento, Soccer 4 All, Helen, Croissant-Brioche, Sweet Paris, Local, Bike World, Cloud 10, Saint Cloud, Fellini, etc...
samagon
Hate? Certainly not. Just because there aren't any unique shops in Rice Village that make me want to go there vs somewhere else, that doesn't mean hate. I'd say indifference.
