kdog08
Great news. I wish more of these non-profits and quasi-governmental groups would share the same building.

Subdude
The building’s iconic feature will be a 2,000-square-foot terrace offering a panoramic look at Discovery Green park, several hotels, a soon-to-be-renovated convention center facade, landscaped pedestrian walkways and sidewalk cafes as well as a dramatic view of the skyline, said Bob Harvey, president and CEO of the GHP. In what possible sense of the word could the terrace be an "iconic feature"? What does that even mean? Anyway, I suppose it makes sense for the various civic booster organizations to be bundled in together, and the location is perfect for when they want to waylay convention-goers and explain the benefits of Houston. UtterlyUrban
Only a year to erect this? "Some pre-construction work has begun, Campo said, but major construction will start next spring. The office building and garage are expected to be completed in March 2016.""The GHP hopes to move in by May or June of that year, Harvey said." toxtethogrady
Supposedly that terrace is designed to set the mood so that when the Partnership brings that executive from the latest prospective Fortune 1000 up there, they'll be ready to sign on the dotted line. Tumbleweed_Tx
"iconic" seems to be the big buzzword of the year, but people who use it really don't understand its meaning.

DNAguy
"iconic" seems to be the big buzzword of the year, but people who use it really don't understand its meaning. If you break it down, it's actually pretty accurate in its current usage: Iconic: I con - as in "I con you" or "I am lying to you" or Ic - as in "Ick" or something you would say if something is nasty or not pleasing So most things labeled 'iconic' in Houston are just not really pleasing to the eye and mostly a fabrication or distortion or the truth.

Popular Post Urbannizer
http://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/real-estate/article/Plan-calls-for-hotel-to-perch-atop-new-tower-5684968.php One of the organizations charged with bringing visitors to Houston would like to have some of them really close. Like, upstairs. Houston First Corp. on Tuesday announced it would begin taking proposals from developers for a hotel to be built atop its planned new headquarters in the building it will share with other Houston-focused organizations. Exact plans will be left to whoever gets the contract, but a conceptual rendering released Tuesday shows a sleek glass-and-steel addition that would place about 400 hotel rooms above the recently announced office building that will be home base for Houston First, the Greater Houston Partnership, the Greater Houston Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Center for Houston's Future. The 15-story hotel would sit on top of the planned Greater Houston Partnership Building and 1,900-space parking garage directly behind it and be directly north of the George R. Brown Convention Center.
bobruss
Great image Urbannizer. I was told last week from my source that they wanted both the offices and the hotel to be built at the same time so this makes sense.

monarch
upon my opinion, this particular mixed use property, would become the perfect location, as per a HOTEL LE MERIDIEN. Edited August 13, 2014 by monarch
Subdude
I'm so glad to see the hotel kick-started. I was worried that if it were put off then it would never get done. Downtown still needs more hotel spaces, and this is a perfect location. The proximity of the assorted civic booster organizations in the office section makes sense too, since presumably they host a number of out-of-town visitors. The only other thing this building needs is a major restaurant on the ground floor!
Montrose1100
This is great news. The Marriott and the skinny residential building next to Hess' garage will add some nice density.
Purdueenginerd
Theres going to be a solid concentration of light-blue glass skyscrapers in downtown houston by the time all these projects are done. I hope architects aren't overdoing this design.
