UtterlyUrban
In the images directly above, the second design makes more sense to me. I like where the ramp is going. Two things:1) what are the two towers and pool? A hotel? I thought that the city was building the parking garage with a pad for a potential hotel on top of it. Are they saying 3 hotels now?2) what was that cute little chugga-bug red vehicle doing?

HoustonIsHome
Directing the ramp away from the convention garage makes a lot of counterintuitive sense. It opens the way for more pedestrian interaction and will be more aesthetically pleasing.
mollusk
what was that cute little chugga-bug red vehicle doing? I believe that is a test mule they use to do clearance checking along the rail lines (notice the little outriggers on the sides).
houstontexasjack
I haven't seen anything on the following link. This Southern Downtown Public Realm plan (that sounds like something out of 'Game of Thrones' by the way), indicates possible convention center expansion southward by 2025, plus improved pedestrian ability to cross the future I-69 into EaDo. http://www.downtownhouston.org/site_media/uploads/attachments/2014-06-18/Southern_Downtown_Public_Realm_Plan_Final_For_Web_Compressed.pdf

cloud713
I believe that's just the garage portion/podium for an eventual hotel. Or did the plans change?
Texasota
yeah, that's a parking garage. nicer than i was expecting actually.
Texasota
No, actually in the linked pdf its described as an office building. I will now accept more whining about how it isnt at least 50 stories and 1000 feet tall.
cloud713
They were always talking about possibly some "offices" at this site, but they're really not building more parking? It always sounded like a few small offices inside a garage to me.
Naviguessor
Looks to me like as though The front is offices and parking garage behind. Nice. Glad they went lateral with the idea rather than vertical. Now if the hotel is eventually added, it won't look all HoliDays Inn.
Luminare
This is wonderful! The scale is perfect Not everything downtown needs to be 50 stories tall everyone. I mean I remember reading that they were going to disguise the parking garage with an office/retail front....but this has actually exceeded my expectations (granted they were pretty low to begin with >.> ). With the Nau Center next to it and the hotels across from it. This is going to be a great area of downtown!
fkp5
Wow, that actually looks pretty good! I agree that not everything downtown needs to be a skyscraper. There are enough parking lots to fill some of them with smaller buildings. This area is going to look really nice when all of these projects are done. urbanize713
If you look at the original rendering the pedestal looks very much like what was pictured/rendered before. Edited July 9, 2014 by urbanize713
Sky-guy
Good observation! I hope they do build the hotel on top.
Houston?
It is! The only difference with the new renderings is that the hotel portion is not included on top of the office building.
Naviguessor
The big mystery block that this building faces, behind the Marquis, should reveal itself soon...I would imagine. It's almost the only unclaimed parcel in the immediate area.
bobruss
I thought someone had proposed two 12 story hotels on that lot.
Houston19514
I thought someone had proposed two 12 story hotels on that lot. Those are on the Rusk/Capitol/Crawford/LaBranch block. Naviguessor is referring to the Rusk/Capitol/Crawford/Avenida de las Americas block.
bobruss
You're right, it's hard to keep all of these in the right place.
