IronTiger
Tearing down St. Dane's?I am a bit surprised it won't be closer to downtown...and I'm also now wondering if Fiesta will get "priced out" and close down.

cloud713
As cool as this is for Midtown, it's a damn shame WFs isn't going to be on the light rail line and/or closer to downtown. Oh well, it's a step in the right direction!
nativehoustonion
Smith to Main is just 4 blocks.

ANTHONYHTOWN
with whole foods on that side an HEB might be good on the opposite side a bit more towards east/eastend

H-Town Man
Funny that a certain local development genius thought that ground floor retail wouldn't work at McGowen Station, and yet here's a ground floor Whole Foods going up four blocks away.
cspwal
Smith @ Elgin is pretty far from either station - its 4 blocks to main, and then another 4 blocks either way to get to a light rail station

Texasota
I doubt that. Whole Foods will need the whole ground floor pretty much.

cloud713
Yeah, 8 blocks of walking with groceries isn't ideal.

Luminare
a 15 min walk radius is a good walking distance and already would reach a lot of people! Yeah 8 blocks isn't really ideal, but 4 is just right.
KinkaidAlum
and Texans like to pretend to be tough. The closest grocery store in Boston was about 10-12 blocks from my house and didn't even have parking. I walked in snow, ice, rain, wind, sun, heat, humidity, you name it. That said, the walking environment there was so much nicer. Wide sidewalks. Clear crosswalks. Drivers that paid attention to pedestrians. Other people out on the streets. Walking in Houston outside of a few areas just isn't pleasant. Weather aside, you often deal with disappearing sidewalks, angry drivers, vacant blocks, potholes, trash, glass, odd-smelling puddles...
HoustonMidtown
It may be the "less expensive" version of Whole Foods according to this....and no apartments... http://swamplot.com/new-whole-foods-market-midtown-store-will-go-on-site-of-shuttered-social-security-office/2015-05-07/ http://www.eater.com/2015/5/7/8566061/whole-foods-cheaper-store-broke-people-whole-paycheck Edited May 7, 2015 by HoustonMidtown
