I went to the playoff game yesterday and thought I would share some pictures from the game. I ran into a guy who was leaving at halftime so he gave me tickets to his seats on the fourth row for the second half, that's why there are two separate locations for the pictures. (Pictures were taken from my phone)

It definitely wasn't a sell out but it was far from a disappointing crowd. I'd say there were probably around 16-17,000. Not too bad considering the Texans game was going on at the same time.

it doesnt look like it was even close to a sellout. I guess the stadium buzz is gone already?

Houston-Dynamo-Concessions-rendering.jpg

The Houston Dynamo and Levy Restaurants have made some changes to the concessions at BBVA Compass Stadium, which could lead to improved service and menu options

First announced late last month, the changes include a major overhaul to the stadium’s south concourse. That adjustment at BBVA Compass Stadiumallows for the introduction of new food and drink options.

A full list of what to expect this season can be found here, but the Dynamo and Levy are welcoming a concept called Taste of EaDo, which will lead to some local menu options. Among the stands to be included are H-Town Grill, the walk-in HTX International Market, 713 Taqueria, and Diggity Dogs, which will feature a two-foot Colombian-style hot dog. The local connection will extend beyond the food, as the Pitch Side Pub will include ales from local breweries along with more widely-distributed national and international beers.

I wonder if any stadiums open their concourses up as full-time food halls, even when no events are going on. This would help boost the quality of concessions during a game and create a more full-time value for the neighborhood. This stadium seems perfect for it, and Houston is in serious need of more food halls.

https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2018/01/12/exclusive-bbva-compass-stadium-to-undergo-further.html

BBVA Compass Stadium, which hosts the Houston Dynamo and Dash, is expected to see concourse renovation before the beginning of the 2018 season, the team president said.

About three-quarters of the stadium's concourse is planned to undergo a food and beverage renovation after a similar project for the other quarter of the stadium was completed last year, President Chris Canetti said. The changes are aimed at enhancing the in-game experience for fans and to drive revenue growth through concessions.

The renovation is slated to improve concession stands and create specialty food offerings in addition to constructing four new themed food and beverage opportunities at each gate.

"It's going to be completely different than anything we've had," Canetti said.

Renderings were not immediately available, nor was builder or architect information.

Upgrades started in 2017 in part to respond to evolving fan needs at the six-year-old BBVA Compass Stadium. The Houston Dynamo renovated about a quarter of the concourse that year before pursuing an entire facelift, Canetti said. The initial investment "worked great," prompting the team to improve the rest of the concourse, Canetti said.

Season ticket sales are on pace with internal goals, as the team has sold north of 10,000 season tickets, Canetti said. The stadium has about 22,000 seats. The team's goal is to sell about 12,000 season tickets, which it expects it can do in the next few years, he said.

Premium seats, such as club and suite seats, in BBVA are also being replaced by the end of May. The seats will be "nicer" and more "quality," but the total number of seats are not expected to change after the improvements, Canetti said.

In 2017, BBVA also added a new TV partner, KUBE, which it resigned in the offseason to a three-year deal, Canetti said.

"You look at the other teams (in Houston) and they're doing the same things," Canetti said. "Even though our stadium is the newest, we're trying to aggressively make the improvements that are going to mirror the growth we're having."

Forbes ranked the Dynamo No. 13 on its list of the most valuable teams in Major League Soccer, with a value of $218 million. Forbes also reported the Dynamo’s revenue as $26 million and its operating income as $1 million for the 2016 season. The team is currently looking for a new sponsor on its jerseys after its contract with BHP Billiton recently expired.

The Dynamo made it to the Conference Championship round in the playoffs in 2017 before falling to the Seattle Sounders FC. In the midst of its playoff run, the Dynamo hired David Brady as their executive vice president and chief marketing officer. Brady was formerly the Texas Gulf Coast Red Cross CEO.

The Dynamo have about 140 full-time employees, Canetti said

Houston Dynamo Football Club announced a multi-phase renovation of BBVA Stadium that will feature a safe-standing section for Club supporters.

“As we recently saw with the announcement of new ownership and our return to full capacity, we have unquestionable momentum as an organization. Today’s announcement further adds to the momentum around the Club and we are ecstatic to see the continued evolution of BBVA Stadium later this fall,” President of Houston Dynamo Football Club, John Walker said. “BBVA Stadium is a premier venue and these new spaces will capture the identity of the city, its diversity, its energy and a unique ability to bring everyone together.”

The safe standing section will allow 1,200 supporters to consume the north end of the venue for all Dynamo and Dash matches. The project was developed in collaboration with the Hustle Town Supporters Group, which includes El Batallon, the Texian Army, the Surge, Bandera Negra, and Bayou City Republic.

“The Club is excited to create this enhanced environment for Hustle Town Supporters, which will amplify their energy and have an even greater impact on the team and all fans at BBVA Stadium,” Chief Revenue Officer, Dionna Widder said. “The transformation of both ends will create a unique and diversified experience for fans to add to the electric environment at BBVA Stadium.”

The safe-standing section will serve as a centerpiece of BBVA Stadium and continue a growing trend among soccer-specific venues in the United States to offer supporters a designated space to stand for the full 90 minutes. Four MLS venues added a safe standing space to their venue in 2021 and construction will begin shortly after the conclusion of the 2021 MLS and NWSL seasons.

The renovations include two premium spaces in the south end of the venue that will offer an elevated fan experience on match day beginning in 2022. The Sports Deck, located in the upper south endline and the Pitch Zone, located in the south endline, will offer members an all-inclusive food and beverage experience, parking benefits, and event tickets to all regular season Dynamo and Dash matches.

Are the Dynamo doing well attendance wise?

In a word.... no.

I'm a STH in the supporter section and attendance last season was spectacularly bad. BUT, we have a new owner and they just made the highest $$$ transfer they've ever done. New coach, new GM, and a lot to be excited about.

If anyone wants to check out a game for cheap, they are doing three "713 nights" where you can get $7 tickets, $1 hot dogs and $3 beers.

They will be on March 19, July 3, and August 13.

That's pretty cool. What's crazy is how the team in Atlanta is packing out Mercedes Benz Stadium!

Replat application has been submitted for the stadium.

The only thing that has changed from the 2010 replat is the building line along Emancipation.

They originally had a 25' BL, but now with TOD they qualify for a 0' BL and they likely already meet the pedestrian realm requirements to do so as it is currently built.

If I had to guess, they are planning on expanding the restaurant area along Emancipation:

They played with the idea of this being open before and after games at one point.

The orange wall of the stadium is probably 25' off of the ROW, so if this replat is approved, then they would be able to built approx up to the edge of the sidewalk.

25'X1000' of frontage along Emancipation means you are granted 25k more buildable area

I know ROW, and TOD.  What's BL?

Building Line?

Yep!

Also, this was approved by the planning commission on Thursday. I'm guessing that this will be a project they work on during the off-season. Nice to see TOD allowing some positive change.  Unfortunately, primary TOD ends right here and the Shipra projects across the street are secondary, so they can choose to opt-in or not.

"TheHouston Dynamo Football Club today unveiled the winning seating design, as chosen by a fan vote, for the all-new mesh seats which will be installed throughout PNC Stadium this offseason. More than 1,500 fans voted in the three-week long contest.

The conversion to mesh seats, which is part of an extensive capital investment project that also includes the creation of an all-new East Club on that side of the stadium, is the most recent major investment made by Club owner Ted Segal across all aspects of the organization."

"The new East Club features nine loge boxes, which offer individuals and companies the opportunity to entertain guests in a semi-private space with access to all of the all-inclusive benefits of the East Club. All nine of the new loge boxes have sold out, the Club also announced today."

"The new mesh seats, produced by 4Topps and DreamSeat, are up to 30 degrees cooler than traditional stadium seats. Each of the new seats will include a cupholder and armrests, creating a significantly improved overall experience for guests at all PNC Stadium events. Seats in the new East Club will feature premium high-backed mesh seats from 4Topps."

Mesh seats = No more swamp ass.

Of course, if you're using your seat, you're not cheering hard enough.

Like they used to say in the monster truck rally commercials: "We'll sell you the whole seat, but you'll only need the eeeeeeeedge!"
