JoninATX
Thanks everyone, I'm sure a hotel announcement will be made here soon. Also it looks like the new steel part being erected on top of the Convention Center will be cased in glass from what the rendering tells us. Avossos
They also appear to be lighten up at night. the Convention Center really isnt bad at all... its a nice tribute to the 80s architecture. The only better Convention Center i know of is the one in NYC near midtown... and that is recently built!
phillip_white
Not sure if the first two renderings have been posted before, but it's the first time I've seen them. The CC entry will be a nice complement to DG.http://www.archpaper.com/news/articles.asp?id=7645#.VecANflk_xW

por favor gracias
I love the idea of monorail (or some kind of commuter rail) going directly through the buildings above ground level.
phillip_white
And with the birth of the monorail, HAIF will come out with pitchforks demanding Monorail Level Retail and wondering who could have possibly been in favor of GFR. Twinsanity02
Perhaps I need new glasses. I do not see a monorail in the renderings.
por favor gracias
And with the birth of the monorail, HAIF will come out with pitchforks demanding Monorail Level Retail and wondering who could have possibly been in favor of GFR. Haha...I may get on that bandwagon myself! In all seriousness, I think that most of our larger buildings downtown could accommodate stations/access to and from the 2nd floor of their lobbies. I'd love for Houston to have an elevated 45-65 MPH rail system connecting downtown to the suburbs and airports, and a subway network connecting downtown at least with the med center and galleria areas and with easy access to our tunnel system downtown. Perhaps I need new glasses. I do not see a monorail in the renderings. It was mentioned in the article linked above: http://www.archpaper.com/news/articles.asp?id=7645#.VechoIuwbhD

Houston19514
There's actually a massive gap between the Houston First office and the parking garage itself. I wonder if they have any temporary solution if this hotel doesn't go forward anytime soon. I'm pretty sure the parking garage structure will fill in that gap.
cspwal
It's going to be interesting to see what the final configuration of this area is going to be. If you look at historical Google Earth views, it's changed a lot even since building MMP

gene
if they were smart they would use some of the upper decks for restaurants etc to make the most of those views!

The latter. The Facebook page for the convention center shared his photos. I come across a good amount of updates thanks to Facebook.

BigFootsSocks
I know it doesn't really mean much, but they are pouring a roof/floor for the 8th floor, and the piers have an extension for further floors. This initial office is only 7 floors.Take that as you will. Urbannizer
They were wanting to keep the crane on site and use it for the hotel once the office building is complete.
BigFootsSocks
Yeah that's what I'm saying; the office is listed at 7 floors, the pic shows the roof of the 7th floor with piers extending above where the roof is, which I assume means they're pouring a floor for an 8th floor.
Houston19514
Houston First's COO gave a report on this project to the hotel committee at a meeting last week. It would be nice if Houston had a news reporter who was aware of, covered, and reported on such things.
