samagon
commerce is such a wide road, I enjoyed using it to ride, but yes, it seems to be the worst street in Houston that I have ever been on.

cspwal
There's still train tracks embedded in the streets in EaDo between $499k townhouses, so I wouldn't hold my breath on rebuilt streets outside of a few corridors (bike lanes, transit corridors)

At the northern end, it runs up along the edge of downtown near the Bayou and could easily connect to the expanded trails after they are extended south past San Jacinto. Seems like a prime candidate for being redone with dedicated bike lanes added.

According to the latest Houston Bikeways map (http://tei-houston.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=0d493ce6ec01481b82cec71bf7f67374), a portion of Commerce is designated as a "Potential Short Term Implementation Opportunity" for an in-street ROW. If/when implemented, this would essentially link the Buffalo Bayou trails via Jensen/Navigation, the Harrisburg trail via Commerce, and the Columbia Tap trail via Paige/Harrisburg/Emancipation.

If it's between $499k townhouses, I would think that means there's sufficient reason and support for the city to update the road.
Popular Post TheSirDingle
Found some stuff from the planning commission. Site Plan: sectioning of the two bottom buildings: 2d rendering of the phase 1 mixed use (4 floors) and a building elevation of the phase 2 mixed use (20 floors) Looks to be another big mixed use development. Probably going to be a pretty bustling lot when completely developed. IMO mixed used = best use for 24/7 activity. EaDolivin
I wonder if they plan on connecting Canal St to Chartress instead of it being a dead end at the RR tracks. Would be nice to have another route underneath the tracks like Navigation does. Maybe not since that site plan above shows a parallel st with the tracks right on the end of the property. I doubt you'd be able to connect that to an underpass.
JBTX
Looks like there is a drive-in screen set up. If Midway can do it at East River, why not here? (Forgive the terrible night time, in car photography)

JBTX
The drive-in has been a good use of the property while we wait for Triten to permit, secure funding, and secure an HEB (hopefully!) for us in the East End.

I think it just means the land is being used temporarily for the outdoor theater. I'm not even sure what the real timeline for breaking ground is

hindesky
So I came across a couple of guys taking down the drive-in theatre screen, so this might mean something, either winter has caused people to not go to drive-ins anymore, the Moonstruck in Midway's East River project has overtaken the market or this project is about to start up. Hoping for the latter.
JBTX
My money is on the latter. The drive in has been packed as if late. I can see it from my living room. Alternatively, I wonder if maybe they are making a bigger screen? Edited January 3, 2021 by JBTX Added alternative.
ljchou
Per the drive in website it looks like December was a "soft launch" with discounted ticket rates. I'm thinking they may be prepping for something more permanent. (https://rooftopcinemaclub.com/houston/venue/the-drive-in-at-eado/) I have a feeling the development of this lot for "The Mill" may not take place in the short term. I haven't seen any paperwork for restrictions or permitting yet.

The shipping containers were taken down today. Looks like they are also bringing in some stones to lay out as a non-grass surface in the lot. 1

JBTX
Looks good! There is also a sort of shop looking thing (maybe where the food trucks will go?) in the back corner of the lot, closer to the existing structure. I saw them putting it together last night. I'll try and grab a picture.
