The original shot I posted is a little misleading as it was taken at the top of the hill for the stage (right next to the road). This pic is not nearly as successful as the others I took, but it'll give you an idea of the view from the middle of Discovery Green: This is where I was standing approximately when I took the pic.8 points

As I mentioned in the GRB thread. Was walking around Discovery Green tonight trying out a new manual wide angle lens (Rokinon 12mm) and took a few shots of the Marquis. Looks to be fitting right in!6 points

If you look at the renders here http://www.ridadev.com/page_hotel_marriott_marquis_houston.cfm you can faintly see the balconies.5 points

Discovery Green centers our new Convention District, GRB anchors it, while Hilton and Marriott give it balance. Amazing transformation of this area.3 points

I'll take it over just a parking garage.3 points

so i take it the left red pillar will be lit up the same as the right...but wow amazing photographs and like i keep saying...i would have NEVER thought i would be excited to see or go to the GRB...but this is just awesome...i LOVE Discovery Green!3 points

Definitely looks like two penthouses to me. Looking at the Marquis website, there is a room type called "Executive Corner Terrace" has a Discovery Green view and a pool view. Sounds like that might be it.3 points

Wow, I didn't expect the art installation to be so prominent from Discovery Green. I didn't realize the top of the red stacks would have LEDs in them (or the horizontal overhang). This is going to look like an entirely different place once its all finished. I can't wait.3 points

http://houston.culturemap.com/news/arts/11-14-16-soaring-sculpture-unveiled-at-george-r-brown-convention-center/?utm_source=sf_twitter#slide=1 ^^^ finally, the OFFICIAL unveiling of ED WILSON'S soaring in the clouds bird sculpture at the GRB. this form of high octane / uber dynamic art installation is going to make the GRB become a showstopper. well done houston....3 points

Is this a project where they build the garage first and then the building at a later point?2 points

With the apartments to the northern end the park looks like it will have a more urban park feel, but both the park and the apartments would have benefited from the view if the apartments were on the southern end instead. I hope someone comes in and builds a 40 story tower right across the street and totally ruins Campos view.2 points

I think the idea of placing the apartments on the northern end has to do with how they can promote the units. By placing them on the north end of the park, you can up-charge the rooms with a downtown view and the ones with a park view. If they would have been built on the southern end, only one side would of had the park and the downtown views and the other side would be HCC (much harder to rent for a premium).1 point

The HAIF arguments over whether it should be renovated with a full complement of glass or kept in its original 2017 aesthetic in fifty years will be wild.1 point

There already is a double tree at Allen Center... either they are rebranding or making a hotel in one of the existing buildings...1 point

Memorial Hermann Medical Plaza is 430 feet tall according to Emporis. No good at perspective. Maybe maybe not, but it is close1 point

If Houston were Austin, we'd kick a 150ft architectural spire on this thing and call it a day. Looking at you, Fairmont Austin1 point

I love my Rokinon 12mm. I use it a lot for landscapes and astrophotography out at the beach. So I notice they still haven't glassed over the southwestern corner on the top two floors. Ive been trying to figure out for a while now if those will be balconies, but haven't gotten a response. Balconies weren't shown in the original renderings, but if that is now the plan, does anyone know what rooms the balconies would connect to? Penthouses? The top floor looks like it has a taller ceiling, maybe a public space of some sort? Should be some great views from there..1 point

This building blends in well with its surroundings...e.g., juxtaposition of it with the old Rice Hotel (Rice Lofts).1 point

Philip, Outstanding work. The birds-eye view of this area brings into perspective the dynamic growth of Midtown. It informs the discussion providing everyone insight into the growth pattern that has developed, the ramifications for future growth, and a more efficient and illuminating way to see the scope, scale and potential growth, the big picture. And what better way than by air to take it all in. This video also suggests that they are well along, and into the final stages of construction of structures, paving, and plumbing. The shaping of the infill seems to be underway and landscaping is not far off. Its amazing how fast crews can get grass, plants, shrubs and trees in the dirt. Well choreographed. Probably the main issue will be the timing of getting the grass in before winter gets here. Most grasses tend to go dormant in cold weather, so I imagine they'll seed it with winter rye, for its resistance to cold weather, rapid growth, and its bright green color for the cameras. All in all It looks like its going to be a very successful park, and much anticipated opening. I also wouldn't be surprised if they finished the facades of the faces of this project for the illusion. It will definitely help spur growth. This tool seems to be something you should be able to market. Seems to me that this is the kind of tool that developers could use to sell projects, helpful to real estate investors in making more informed decisions and for city planners, providing them with a better way to understand and appreciate the dynamics of its current growth and the for future planning of this meteor. Good luck! By the way I really liked the shot of the two rail cars suggesting a curtain opening behind the trees.1 point

Hopefully ESPN has a plan B if this doesn't finish soon. No one was working on Sunday. Campo might have egg on his face since he's part of the Super Bowl committee. Levy Park may be further along than this. Southern portion of the apartments looks topped out.1 point

I can totally understand people not liking Josh innes, but I literally can not listen to the triple threat. If that show was on any other station but 610 it would crash and burn.1 point

Interesting color scheme with the blue and white. Still looks progressive for Houston. Somewhat futuristic. Perhaps not up to the bar that the first design set but it's honestly pretty nice.1 point
