Did it take up the entire space that Luby's had?

Yes 100 percent it did!!!! It is huge inside and looks really great...still has that charm the old location had but on a grander scale (plus FULL bar that takes up a full wall and a large bakery counter now as well!)

click on this link...then click on the photo to see multiple photos of the new interior! https://preview.houstonchronicle.com/dining/curtain-s-up-kenny-ziggy-s-new-production-16820200

Based on an entity filing last month, it's likely Bluestone Lane may open a branch in the Post Oak Plaza shopping center.

There was a blurb in Houston Chronicle's retail wrap back in March referencing plans for an Uptown location:

"Next, Bluestone Lane will open cafes in Rice Village, Post Oak and The Woodlands later this year and into 2023"

https://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/texas-inc/article/Retail-wrap-Goode-Company-Barbeque-reopens-17047958.php

Bluestone Lane is an all-day cafe and coffee shop from New York. The first Houston area location opened recently in the Heights.

An update on il Braco, the Italian restaurant opening soon in the Post Oak Plaza shopping center.

From CultureMap yesterday:

il Bracco - Two veterans of the Houston's/Hillstone restaurant group will bring this Dallas-based Italian restaurant to the Galleria area this July.

wow just noticed this morning but Berry Hill is now permanently closed with signage saying as much on both entrances, the large signs are removed from the building and they have already begun hollowing out the space as well!

It's sad Berryhill is closing its Post Oak Plaza location, but not surprising following last month's announcement regarding Nando's Peri Peri entering the Houston market.

The former Berryhill location at Post Oak Plaza is becoming home to one of several Nando's Peri Peri restaurants planned for the Houston area. The latest addition to Post Oak Plaza's tenant roster was reported last month. Although none of the articles specifically stated Nando's is taking over the Berryhill unit, the reported square footage seems to align with Berryhill's location.

Houston Chronicle's reporting:

Nando’s Peri-Peri, a South African restaurant, has announced it will open its flagship Texas location at 1751 Post Oak, in spring 2023. The 3,200-square-foot space in Levcor’s Post Oak Plaza will be designed by Michael Hsu Office of Architecture with colors and textures that reflect its African origins as well as original South African contemporary Art.

https://www.houstonchronicle.com/food-culture/restaurants-bars/article/nandos-chicken-texas-17227592.php

Plus there is a Google Map listing for Nando's Peri Peri's forthcoming location at Post Oak Plaza. The address is the same as Berryhill: 1717 Post Oak Blvd, Suite C.

yep Berryhill will be missed...it was the one chill hole in the wall places/hangouts left in Uptown proper. i liked that vibe (and their jalapeno ranch dip!)

Are there any Berryhill's left now?  This one was the last of four locations we used to go to all the time.  Sad to see them go.

i know! it is sad! the original Berry Hill on Revere is still open...it was supposed to close long ago but for now still open. (and the little cart they originally used is still out front by the street...)

but i thought that plaza was still possibly being redeveloped? who knows...

In addition to the original one on Revere, there are Berryhills on 11th in the Heights and on 43rd at Ella in Oak Forest. We used to go to the original one regularly when it first opened, as we lived nearby then. Now if we go to one, it's usually the Heights location.

They have the state TDLR permits for construction but I just drove by and all the shops are still open. They may be waiting out leases.

  • The title was changed to Uptown Houstonians Have Class

So today they have the entire expanse of the old Masraff's fenced off...they currently have a crew doing something to the entire facade of the building that faces Post Oak Blvd currently...not sure if this is part of the entire plaza remodel or for something moving into the space...

edit to add: i just drove by and looks like there is work being done on the inside AND the outer facade is being ripped off so maybe this is both a remodel and an outer renovation to the plaza.

Levcor, a Houston-based owner, operator and developer of commercial real estate, announced new restaurants and retailers at Post Oak Plaza. The property at Post Oak Boulevard and San Felipe is undergoing a renovation with updated storefronts and new gathering areas. Bluestone Lane, an Australian-inspired coffee shop, café and lifestyle brand, leased 1,405 square feet for its third location in Houston. BSH Experience & Design Center leased 14,777 square feet for a luxury appliance showroom featuring Bosch, Thermador and Gaggenau products. The appliance maker was represented by Michael Burgower and Eric H. Lestin of Cushman & Wakefield in the lease, while Rand Horowitz of Shop Cos. and Sasha Levine of Levcor represented the landlord. Body20, a fitness studio providing a personalized, technology-based workout experience, leased 1,995 square feet. Upcoming restaurants joining Kenny & Ziggy’s in the center include il Bracco and Nando’s Peri Peri.

It's Balboa Surf Club at 1751 Post Oak Blvd. The restaurant is from the same group opening il Bracco at Post Oak Plaza too. This was discussed last year in this thread:

It looks like Balboa Surf Club is a new restaurant concept from the same hospitality group bringing il Bracco to Houston. I think it's a smart move on their part having two of their concepts in the same commercial development.

Maybe Balboa Surf Club will be a seafood restaurant at Post Oak Plaza, possibly on the higher end? I don't know.

Thanks for the clarification, Gene. When I saw 1751 Post Oak Blvd as the given address and this being a restaurant, I assumed this is taking over Masraff's old digs.

Also renderings and a site plan show Balboa Surf Club taking over Masraff's former unit. In renderings it's shown as Malibu Surf Club. The most site plan doesn't list the name, but has a restaurant coming soon in the former Masraff's unit.

But the older site plan from 2021 lists Balboa Surf Club.

il Bracco is soft open at its new location in Houston's Post Oak Plaza (as of Monday). I think preview service for friends and family were held over the weekend.

The address for il Bracco is 1705-A Post Oak Blvd.

More about the design of the space from CultureMap's article yesterday:

"To transform the space, il Bracco hired Texas firm Michael Hsu Office of Architecture (Uchiko, Loro). The 6,000-square-foot space features a contemporary design with a dedicated bar/lounge area, custom light fixtures, and a 35-seat patio. Quick's wife, il Bracco design director Mary Lucille, selected the restaurant's artwork from their personal collection. "

More construction photos of seafood restaurant Balboa Surf Club. This is opening soon in Post Oak Plaza at 1753 Post Oak Blvd.

I found these photos on Novak Commercial Construction's Instagram. They were posted in mid-August.

"Construction is well underway for Balboa Surf Club, located in Post Oak Plaza in Uptown Houston. Our project Manager... is doing a great job moving this amazing project along, which will feature 7,207 square feet of interior space with a mezzanine, plus an 1,187 square foot patio!"

Western Addition, the Dallas-based hospitality group behind Il Bracco restaurant, announced its next dining concept for Houston: Balboa (or Balboa Surf Club). It's slated to open in 2023 at 1753 Post Oak Blvd. Balboa is one of many new additions to Post Oak Plaza.

The announcement was shared yesterday in an Instagram story. Additionally, Western Addition changed the status of Balboa's Instagram account from private to public so people are able to follow the account. Balboa's website is also available.

Bluestone Lane, an Aussie-inspired coffee shop and cafe, opened last week at Post Oak Plaza. The cafe is located at 1707 Post Oak Blvd. It's in the unit previously occupied by Merchant. The New Orleans coffee shop and cafe closed its doors in June.

The uptown / Galleria area location is the company's second Houston area outpost.

Levcor shared a photo of Bluestone Lane's latest Houston location last week:

This may be an updated rendering of Balboa / Balboa Surf Club. The rendering was uploaded to the restaurant's Facebook page in September.

Balboa (or Balboa Surf Club) is estimated to open in 2023 at 1753 Post Oak Blvd. It joins Il Bracco restaurant as one of several new dining additions at Post Oak Plaza. Both restaurants are from Dallas-based hospitality group Western Addition.
