I don't know. I have to disagree. Previous leasing materials for Post Oak Plaza listed the Panera Bread unit, 1709 Post Oak Blvd, as available for lease. So, it's not that surprising, in my opinion.

There is a site plan map several posts up. I think the site plan was included in updated marketing materials in late spring or early summer of 2022. In the site plan, Panera Bread's unit is shown as available. It's the one marked 02.

Also renderings and a site plan show Balboa Surf Club taking over Masraff's former unit. In renderings it's shown as Malibu Surf Club. The most site plan doesn't list the name, but has a restaurant coming soon in the former Masraff's unit.

A few observations from the updated site plans for Post Oak Plaza:

  • Japanese noodle restaurant Marugame Udon is no longer listed. I don't know if this means it's no longer opening at 1727 Post Oak Blvd.

  • The units previously marked J and K in older leasing materials are combined into a single unit marked K. The unit labeled J in the previous brochure was Judy Robinson Gallery Inc at 1749 Post Oak Blvd. K was Meredith O'Donnell Fine Furniture at 1751 Post Oak Blvd. The furniture store relocated to northwest Houston in 2020.

Local Foods is closing its location at Gables Tanglewood ( 5740 San Felipe ) and moving to Post Oak Plaza.

The restaurant will move into the former Panera Bread unit at 1709 Post Oak Blvd.

An Architectural Barriers Projects was registered for Local Foods last year. What Now Houston reported on the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations filing, noting the address as 1751 Post Oak Blvd.

Recent site plans in marketing brochures for Post Oak Plaza indicated the unit at 1727 Post Oak Blvd is in lease. However, the tenant was unlisted.

The unit was slated for the first Houston location of Japanese noodle restaurant Marugame Udon. Instead of an udon restaurant, Post Oak Plaza is leasing the 1727 Post Oak Blvd unit to Rakkan Ramen.

Rakkan Ramen is a Japanese restaurant chain with ramen on the menu.

I don't when Rakkan Ramen intends to open.

i am really liking the aesthetic of the new redevelopment overall...the dark gray/almost black brick facade looks really nice in my opinion.

i am watching to see how in the heck they are going to redo the huge Kenny & Ziggy's signage as they have chipped away everything around it except the lettering on the rounded upper structure. but yeah, it's looking really nice and can't wait to see it finished.

since i drive AND ride my bike by here daily, i had to come back and look at your post of the renderings...as for now to me, it looks like such a mess with all the mismatched facades...but looking at the renderings, i like it haha!

we shall see...can't wait for them to be done with this.

(ps...i remember them saying they wanted to sort of emulate Uptown Park's aesthetic...that last picture especially seems to show that. i wonder how many of these little hang out areas they will be doing and how they will upgrade the landscaping...exciting stuff)

Good question! I'm not sure what the correct terminology is, but I really dig parklets, mini parks, whatever they're called. I would like to see more of these here. Really, I'd like to see these everywhere.

taken from: https://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/real-estate/article/tacodeli-rakkan-ramen-expand-houston-uptown-17904643.php

Rakkan Ramen, a Japenese restaurant, leased 1,860 square feet for its third Houston location. Tacodeli, an all-day taqueria based in Austin, leased 2,800 square feet for its second Houston location following its entry on Washington Avenue in 2017. Kohler will open a 4,040-square-foot kitchen and bath showroom featuring the brand’s faucets and fixtures. Bassett Furniture leased 9,600 square feet for a store to open in late 2023. The new retailers join previously announced restaurants Nando’s Peri Peri and Balboa Surf Club and retail including Bosch/Thermador/Gaggenau, all scheduled to open this year. Bluestone Lane, il Bracco and Kenny & Ziggy’s previously opened during the renovation.

Have you tried the Tex Cajun cheese fries from BB's Tex Orleans? Or the Dragon fries from Cook Shack on Washington Ave. They are both very good.

I thought I read at one time that this development wanted to resemble Uptown Park with seating areas and shaded areas etc but that is definitely now what is happening so far. They are finishing the resurfacing of the entire lot now and they have not created any new "areas" from what i can tell...

and while they have lots of low profile plants in a holding area that they are soon to plant...and are planting some trees in portions of the lot, they have these weird ugly tall plant "trees" in the small medians on the Balboa up to Kenny & Ziggys end of the lot... they should have stuck with the usual trees they have elsewhere. Very strange and goofy looking in my opinion but we shall see.

anyway...this development definitely needs something more substantial in the middle of the lot to make this look as nice as Uptown Park. (whether that be a small building (like the small version of the galleria jewel box or the coffee shop at Uptown Park) or a small area with grass and shade and seating (like a mini courtyard version of the area at city center). (Something small enough to not take away from too much parking...as i know that will be the reasoning not to do something maybe)

end of rant. haha

I know this is off topic and not in the right thread but I cant find the thread for the 43 story Ziegler Cooper residential highrise for DeisoMoss to be built on Post Oak Blvd, anywhere. I haven't heard a thing about it in a year it seems.

Has anyone heard anything about this project and can anyone tell me where it is listed.

Thanks!

Nando's Peri Peri is hiring...i am guessing they will be open next month!

https://www.nandosperiperi.com/find/post-oak/ (the inside looks 90 percent finished and they have painted the outside columns to match their south african theme...the fans and lighting are also already up on the outside area and the place looks cool in my opinion)

Honestly i wasn't that excited about it but the menu looks pretty good to me...i will just subtract the chickpeas on anything that includes them haha:

just an update, Nandos is turning out to be a really fun and cool edition to this plaza with a much needed exciting look...hope the food lives up to the design! it really is breathing life into what i think is a very ho-hum plaza in terms of offerings...(except K & Z!).

ps...i am very angry with @hindesky for not posting a photo update yet...and yes, i know, i can take my own dang photo of the place but it wont look as good as theirs...so yes..i am angry. 😑kthxbye

Balboa Surf Club is open at 1751 Post Oak Blvd in Post Oak Plaza.

CultureMap reports on the opening and the restaurant's design in an article today:

"Balboa Surf Club has a midcentury modern design that uses port windows and skylights to add natural light to the dining room. It also takes some inspiration from Brazilian brutalist design for its dramatic entryway and surf bungalows with its plant life throughout the space, according to press materials.

A 1,200-square-foot patio features a concrete fire pit and a 60-foot fountain. Artwork comes from the personal collection of Mary Lucille Quick and her husband, Western Addition president and CEO Robert Quick."

A plan review fee permit was filed today for 1715 Post Oak Blvd, Ste C. It's for a remodel of a restaurant.

As reported earlier this year, Tacodeli is opening its second Houston outpost at Post Oak Plaza. It replaces Five Guys which previously occupied the 1715 Post Oak Blvd, Suite C unit.

CultureMap published an article yesterday on Local Foods' upcoming move to Post Oak Plaza.

As noted in a post earlier this year,  Local Foods is relocating from Gables Tanglewood ( 5740 San Felipe ) to Post Oak Plaza. The restaurant is taking over the former Panera Bread unit at 1709 Post Oak Blvd.

Below is more from CultureMap:

Expected to open in mid-2024... "The new location will provide a fabulous, more spacious, and shaded environment,” [Benjy Levit] says.

In an article published yesterday, CultureMap reports two luxury retailers are coming to Post Oak Plaza:

  • Arhaus, an artisan crafted furniture store

  • Saatva, a luxury mattress company

According the press release sent to CultureMap notes this about Arhaus:

"Arhaus will relocate from its current home in the Centre at Post Oak (5000 Westheimer Rd.). At over 22,000-square-feet, the new store will provide plenty of space to showcase the store’s furniture."

https://houston.culturemap.com/news/restaurants-bars/post-oak-plaza-local-foods-arhaus-saatva-1/

Arhaus' new location is 1751 Post Oak Blvd, based on an architectural barrier project filing earlier this year. The space was previously home to Meredith O'Donnell Fine Furniture.

Post Oak Plaza is located in the Uptown area at 1703-1751 Post Oak Blvd.
