Shell Energy Stadium

Considering what most MLS venues look like, I'd say the Dynamo are getting an architectural statement.

New Dynamo Digs....

If you look closely at the renderings you posted before this one you'll see that they look nothing alike. I wish it looked like this one but alas this stadium - like the new hotel built by discovery green - will be a monstrosity of the blandest proportions. Ugh.

Not sure what you are referring to.... this below is just a structural model of the same rendering you replied to. And that is the final plan.

Besides, if you want to see a "monstrosity of the blandest propotions," look no further then the future home of the San Jose Earthquakes.

Yes, at least we apparently aren't getting the cereal box treatment as above.

As for the Dynamo Stadium rendering, it looks as if the structure has been clad in a transparent skin which would be an interesting effect by allowing difused light to enter, like it's been wrapped by kids in toilet paper. Maybe toilet paper companies should buy the naming rights....Charmin Park has a nice ring to it. :)

This is kind of interesting.... looks like our stadium will cost something between a high end and an average stadium

You can't really judge the quality of the venue by costs alone as that variable can affected in so many ways with just where the location is. For instance, At $120 million dollars, Philly paid more for their new venue then the the Dynamo will pay for their new digs in the East End. But if you were too look at each stadium's design and amenities respectively, you'd see the Houston clearly is getting the better venue of the two, for a cheaper price.

Oh. You didn't specify that in the structural model and cutaway post. :) I see now. Much better.

not really worthy of its own thread, but worthy of mention, and it certainly doesn't have anything to do with the stadium...

the Dynamo are in the eastern conference now.

(And to keep on topic) Is there any mention of the new groundbreaking date?

eastern conference? yuck. Houston is an AFC/Southern/Western conference type town. I don't like this!!! :P

We should cancel this stadium until they revert.

Ummm ....I think NOT.

UPDATE: Stadium is on the city council's agenda for Wednesday and will likely be approved due to the county already giving its thumb's up last week.

Sister Cities Promenade: Plans for an international park grow around Dynamo stadium

The plan for the promenade spans six blocks of Bastrop Street between Bell and Walker streets. The original idea was a two-block area dedicated to the Houston-Shenzhen connection, but as the concept grew other sister cities expressed an interest in being involved, and the current plan will incorporate all 17 of Houston's global sister cities (check out the complete list here) equally.

Has anyone else heard about this? I've been following the stadium development plan and this is the first I've seen of it.

it's being changed, it will now include all of Houston's sister cities, not just the one from China.

Sister Cities of Houston hopes to fund the expected $3 million in costs through fundraising and with contributions from the participating cities.

Abu Dhabi is a sister city? Consider the project done. The change falling out of their pockets should put fundraising just over the top ;P
