I don't recall reading about Exxon demolishing historic buildings

BEES?!
I like the little park and dog park integrated into the design of The Charles. The rendering looks nice too.
Avossos
This is quite a bold plan for Urban Genesis - almost a whole campus. I’ve been pleased with their work so far, but tearing down the historic warehouse made me seriously doubt them. I hope I am again ‘pleasantly surprised’. hindesky
Curious what is going on, checking HCAD these two plats have a new name "Lakeside Place PFC", the others still say Urban Genesis.
hindesky
Looking up Lakeside Place PFC shows that maybe the Houston Housing Authority may have purchased these. Somebody who can read this link better than me can correct me if I'm wrong. https://housingforhouston.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/lake-side-may-2021.pdf Edited June 3, 2022 by hindesky
Paco Jones
UG made a deal with the HHA (prior to starting) to develop the land and then turn it over to them. I believe they have done this for almost all of their properties that are being developed here. Edited June 3, 2022 by Paco Jones

The way the deal is made, it turns it into more of an acquisition than a development for the HHA.

Plot twist indeed. If most of what Urban Genesis does is this, I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned before now.

Me too, that would totally explain why the they did a bait and switch with tearing down the beautiful warehouse.

Expanded over the years, that's why it looks like so many different styles of construction--brick, metal, more brick, wood floor, concrete slab, etc. They sold it sometime in the early 1970s, when they built a huge new place out near (called at the time) Beltway 8 West Houston Sash and Door was my mom's family business. I have a photo of this warehouse hanging on my wall. This picture was taken around 1918 or so, from the corner of Sterrett and McKee. The man standing in the doorway is my great-grandfather Moses Davidson, who owned the company, and the boy holding the horse over on the side is my grandfather, 10 years old. My grandfather worked for Houston Sash and Door (later Davidson Texas, Inc.) from when he was 8 until he passed at the age of 83. It saddens me that at the very least the facade wasn't preserved, after all i've been staring at a picture of it my whole life.
