  2. its a rendering for a proposed Embassy Suites expansion
  3. "2015 a Record Year for Houston in Convention Sales, Web and Tourism HOUSTON (January 27, 2016) – Houston First Corporation booked a record number of room nights tied to conventions and meetings last year, just as the organization reached new heights in website visitation and tourism-related room nights. The record successes came in the first full year of the alignment between Houston First and the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau, which combined their efforts in July 2014 to gain additional resources and create a single clear voice for the city under the brand Visit Houston. The Destination Sales team booked 732,967 room nights for future meetings in 2015, a 29% increase over the 569,440 nights booked in 2014 and the largest number ever logged by the organization. S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering and math), medical and education industry meetings led the increase. Ric Campo, chairman of the board of Houston First, said the 2014 alignment of the two organizations, coupled with an expanding hotel package and other new offerings in the Convention District, helped a top notch sales team to surpass its goal. “The completion of the Marriott Marquis, scheduled for this fall, will add another 1,000 rooms directly connected to the George R. Brown Convention Center, allowing us to go after much bigger conventions than we could before,” Campo said." http://www.visithoustontexas.com/media/press-releases/post/2015-record-year/
  4. ^ I guess someone doesn't like critical mass lol
  5. FYI, Skyhouse currently has a 78% occupancy rate up from 40% last April. It was also the first new rental complex to open after One Park Place. It will be interesting to see how fast all of the others fill up once they are delivered.
  6. The current plans are for it to be renovated and converted into apartments. Hopefully it will be done soon.
  7. From Downtown Houston's Facebook page. Not really sure what the people are doing but looks like they are painting stuff.
  8. This project started so long ago that its already registered as a historic landmark and developers are trying to tear it down for a parking lot.
  9. They are leasing now, but move-ins don't start until March.
  10. ^ That's the original rendering that came out a while ago. The one Urbannizer posted seems to be newer.
  11. I've hated on this hotel recently but that angle of the last picture posted above doesn't make it look as bad...
  12. I absolutely love this building. I also love the fact that retail will line the main street side. A+ development in my book.
  13. I think their expansion plans include multilevel parking, a ballroom, and almost doubling the amount of rooms. It seems like a lot for the amount of space that will be there, but then again I'm no expert and not sure how big the tract left behind will be. But I agree that I'm sure they have been planning to tear these down for a long time which is why they are currently vacant and have not leased them back out once the previous tenants left. The deferred maintenance, while I'm sure there is some, seems more of an excuse to tear them down because they knew there would be backlash from the public and HAIFers . While I'm still pretty upset these buildings were torn down, they won't be coming back. I just hope if they indeed plan to expand the hotel, hopefully it is sooner rather than later and AT LEAST make the expansion look "historic" and similar to the hotel.... Thankfully we have many historic buildings in downtown that have been renovated or are currently being turned into apartments and hotels.
  14. I've always wondered about this place but figured it was vacant. I can only imagine that many of these empty lots and smaller buildings will be redeveloped over the next decade with all of the new apartments, hotels, ect going up nearby.
  15. Just don't pass out drunk next to the chrome escalade...better yet, please do and take pics so we can show Randall Davis how excited we are about this development.
  16. Sigh... I guess we can now move this to the Going Up board. Shiny new parking lot on its way!
  17. A bunch of us posted our displeasure to their FB page.... and they deleted all of our comments. The Houston preservation FB page posted the article and a ton of people commented on it not wanting the buildings to be torn down, then whoever runs the Lancaster Hotel FB commented on there explaining the decision and that its not about a parking lot and blah blah blah...
  18. Didn't realize the Brewery Tap closed. When I went to their FB page it says they closed, but it will be taken over by new management and will be a different bar. So Hopefully It won't be vacant.
  19. Congrats UH fans! You knocked us around pretty good and exposed our weak offensive line. Hopefully y'all run the table next season!
  20. Nice. Please build! Looks like Midtown is trying to start attracting high rises.
  21. Wow that looks good!! Can't wait until its complete and the restaurants open up along Texas. Special times for downtown!
