  1. Will this apartment building have ground floor retail space? I don't recall it having any retail areas to put a restaurant unless I'm mistaken.
  2. Had to bump this thread and quote my previous post. You can stop winning now Looking forward to the game.
  3. The Hilton is head and shoulders above this thing. With that said, we'll have more hotel rooms in a "cheaper" price range as compared to the Marquis, Hilton, ect. Once the huge block behind the Marquis and in front of Hampton/Homewood is developed and the other half of the block it sits on, it will block the view of it lol
  4. Wow what a picture!! *Saves picture and makes it computer backdrop*
  5. I'm sure they are just happy to have won the bid to develop this and make some money.
  6. Look, the Lancaster family owns the buildings and can do what they want with him. We understand that. The reason we are voicing our concerns is so many historic structures and old buildings get torn down in this city. We aren't trying to force the family to spend money to renovate the buildings. We are just trying to see if there's another way that they can have their parking situation fixed. Why tear down 100 year old buildings for 50 parking spaces if there could be another alternative? There is a ton of construction going on downtown and will so in the future and more and more parking lots are disappearing making parking a premium, so will we just keep tearing other buildings down because we need parking? But I guess since none of us are spending any of our own money to go toward the buildings we should just shut up and not have any opinions or thoughts on the matter....
  7. Here's the response from The Lancaster on Facebook after many complaints.... "Thank you for your feedback. Indeed, the decision to take down these two buildings was not an easy one for the owners, who are longtime native Houstonians, to make. The Lancaster Hotel, which was built in 1926 by their great-grandfather, is the family legacy and the historical structure they have saved for generations to come. However, next door, the structural integrity of the two vacant buildings has been very compromised. After consulting with engineers and architects, we learned that what it would take to get these buildings just to code, would not be feasible. This is not about 50 parking spaces. Long-term, the family plans to keep the architectural integrity of the Joseph Finger-designed Lancaster building and add a ballroom and guest rooms to the existing 93-room property. The family members do believe in keeping Houston’s history alive. That is why, in 1983, they invested significant dollars to transform the Auditorium Hotel, which what was then an eyesore of the Theater District, into the gem that it is today, The Lancaster and, in 2013, re-invested in the property to do a full-blown renovation to ensure its longevity. Regards, Brenda Anderson, General Manager"
  8. That doesn't look good at all. Hopefully a highrise apartment/hotel gets build in the block in front of this and on the other side of it on the same block so we can try an hide it a little. At least we get some more hotel rooms I guess.

  10. Noooooo!!!! I love these old buildings and now they are tearing them down for a parking lot. At least if they were going to start the hotel expansion right away it would soften the blow, but I doubt that will happen for years.
  11. Yea I've thought this was moving a tad bit slow, but seems its almost complete now. I wonder when the projected opening date of the upscale Italian restaurant and diner that will be going on the ground floor will be open. Catalyst seems to be moving at a fast pace.
  12. Sad to see this building go. I was hoping they could turn it into something cool. Now I hope they can build a highrise apartment/hotel in its place.
  13. Here's an old photo of the Melrose building. Does anyone know what the building on the right is and when it was demolished? Looks like they could have been turned into nice apartments about now, but now its a parking lot waiting for Houston Center if that ever gets built...
  14. Yea I wanted to make Christian's Tailgate downtown my go to bar this season to watch college football. Unfortunately, the Florida Gator alumni group decided to infest the place to watch their games... ugh.. (I'm a Florida State grad )
  15. I noticed that too. The developers for that building must have taken into account that the block could be developed in the future, thus blocking any windows. Now we know that the Sakowitz building is in talks to be torn down and a high rise potentially being built in its place.
