Someone interpreted the parking lot work as a groundbreaking..? Even if they did, not sure that's worth calling someone an "idiot".

I was wondering if that upside down L was the outline of the theater when I saw that picture.. Neat seeing how it was all pieced together.

I'd be interested in hearing more about this sunken garden.. I've never seen it, but recall hearing stories about it. Where was it at? When I googled Noguchi sunken garden the only thing that popped up was one in NYC.

Holy cow. I was wondering why Nole was spamming all the threads with some comment about bumping to get ahead of the spam. Now I see the real mess.. What the heck?

Is the double decker one of those touristy London busses with the open air top deck? From the rendering below it looks enclosed. If its open air, I hope they make the top deck accessible for patrons of the coffee/snack shop as a little seating area with an elevated view. And that "vacant acre" Midway has leased must be the property just west of the office building? I seem to recall discussions on that property in this thread a while back. Maybe use the property to expand the park over and link the green space with Richmond, and/or build a boutique hotel on that site?

Amegy Bank At 1717 West Loop S.

The tower looks great. I realize they took the extra effort to clad the garage in matching glass, but it still almost seems to detract from the tower. I kind of wish it didn't have such sharp angles (or possibly had a slope on the curtain wall?).- 558 replies

I didn't think you could drive personal watercraft through certain parts of the ship channel? If so, it would be an inland marina isolated from open waters. It would be nice for Midway to work with BBP to get some sort of water taxi/bayou boat service between KBR and Allens Landing though..

Speaking of fountains.. Does anyone know the deal with Mecom Fountain? There was the big controversy with them renovating the fountain with new stone material on the outside, then I guess they took it all back down? Last time I paid attention they still hadn't put the "Mecom Fountain" letters back on the side. Was all that work just a complete waste of money or did workers actually do anything useful for the fountain?

Hard to tell if it's just the rendering that makes it look better or what, but it looks pretty clean. The street presence seems to be improved quite a bit?

You've got to be freaking kidding me.. The one "legitimate" observation deck this city still has left, and they decide to close it? Ugh. I used to not really care for the idea of building an observation tower in Houston, but at this point I would welcome one.
