  1. I wasnt sure where to put this first shot.. There are one or two projects U/C in the frame. Construction by Justin Anderson, on Flickr Reflections by Justin Anderson, on Flickr Cranes and Trains by Justin Anderson, on Flickr The Canyon on Main by Justin Anderson, on Flickr Skyward by Justin Anderson, on Flickr
  2. Steady As She Goes by Justin Anderson, on Flickr
  3. I noticed those new pavers on the north side too (it seemed like only a narrow portion was complete though.. from the renderings I thought it was supposed to make more of a "plaza", extending closer to the Disco?). I guess i missed the new lights though. And I didn't make it into the GRB (were you allowed to go in without a pass?), but I did get a peek into the GRB/GHP skybridge and snapped a picture above Rusk.
  4. I couldn't find any threads dedicated to the Final Four events, but I'm out here at "The Backyard" and this place is pretty damn cool. Why can't this be a permanent fixture in downtown?
  5. It looks like the company Zaha designed a "mixed use HQ" for (The Richland Companies) ended up moving into a building on Post Oak.. bummer. http://www.yourhoustonnews.com/west_university/news/richland-companies-acquires-new-hq-in-galleria-area/article_88cb21bd-161b-582d-9875-3360fa982968.html

  7. I was thinking of going out there on Saturday too. Should be great weather. Kind of lame I can't bring my camera bag in though..
  8. Maybe the HBG could designate a small portion of it as public green space, surrounded by the gardens (maybe have a small "local" garden entrance coming from the green space). Like a larger Centennial Gardens-esque "lawn", that you dont have to go through a gate to access. A place for kids to fly a kite, kick a ball around, maybe even have a themed playground, etc. Or possibly incorporate public trails around manicured edges of the property, outside the fence line? Throw in a basic pedestrian bridge on the outer edges of the property to cross the bayou around the gardens for that public/community access. I agree that it would be a shame for the residents to have less park space, but the golf course ISNT a park, and probably should of never been included in the total "green space" in the first place. Maybe the city can add some playgrounds and/or sports fields on empty lots around the district to appease the residents, but it seems completely asinine for the local residents to not want this.
  9. Ive been to a few. They have a "membership" option if you plan on visiting often, or a pay per visit set up. Most botanical gardens seem to charge around $10 for admission. And as for cities "being involved", most cities botanical gardens are built on public land that they lease from the city. And yes, they are typically completely fenced off. Heres an excerpt from an article talking about NYC's botanical garden.. http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article/20140902/NONPROFITS/308319987/money-grows-on-botanical-gardens-trees More on the gardens..
  10. Groceries, eh? Where is the closest grocery store currently.. Phoenicia? Hopefully that means they still plan on trying to sign a grocer for the GFR.
  11. I had kind of wondered if the lights were visible to the interiors.. I hope they thought the design implementation through and thats not the case. Otherwise, a real shame, not to mention a waste of money for the developer. Who's the guy who's sister lives in the building.. Maybe they'll have the scoop?
  12. Has anyone ever heard of this proposal to extend the height of the curtain wall (apparently the original design was supposed to be built that way, not sure why the "concept was never realized"?) with the glass extended above the roof line, making it the tallest building in Texas), along with adding an observation deck with a glass floor? No idea what year these plans are from, but damn would it be cool if it ever happened.. http://www.keatingarchitecture.com/projects/details/60 Interestingly enough.. Keating Architecture also designed the Block 142 mixed use(?) X-shaped tower that was posted last year in the Houston Potential thread. I didn't realize that was designed by a legitimate firm.
  13. There was a good bit of work being done at the site when I drove by earlier in the week.
  14. Although HEB may or may not happen here, just thought I'd point out the HEB South Flores Market in downtown SA in case anyone wasn't aware. 12,000 sq foot store, with 47 parking spaces, a 12 slot bike rack, an outdoor patio, and an 8 bay gas station.
  15. Maybe they wanted to use paint that was more temporary/easy to remove after the fact, but it (obviously) doesn't stick as well?
  16. I think he's a professional that is hired to do this. His website seems to indicate that. Hopefully.. if not, some of those flights, especially the ones downtown flying over cranes and stuff seem pretty sketchy.
  17. Doh.. Ill have to look for that next time I'm in downtown at night. Not sure I ever realized there were other LED panels there besides the color changing lights by the train tracks.
  18. That would be great, but we all know how expensive/over budget the Mickey Leland Building ended up being..
  19. Huh? I wonder if how his other developments are doing lately.. Have room bookings been down? It would seem like his presidential campaign fiasco would reduce the number of people considering booking stays at any of his developments.
  20. Hopefully the development doesn't bear the name "Trump"..
