  1. This is getting out of hand.. That corner has been a popular homeless hangout for some time now. Residents and visitors shouldn't have to deal with this crap in one of Houston's most popular parks. Hopefully the city finally starts to do something about it. http://www.khou.com/news/crime/hfd-several-people-hospitalized-after-overdosing-at-hermann-park/253952689 http://abc13.com/news/16-people-transported-to-hospital-after-kush-overdose-/1398932/
  2. is it just me or are there some unbuilt towers in this model..? Looks like the San Felipe/Post Oak residential, and one or two others at BLVD Place..
  3. By the time it tops out, the cranes should be the highest any cranes have been not just in Houston, but in all of Texas, since the 1980s..
  4. From the picture tigereye linked, it doesnt appear to have been a reskin/cladding over top of an old facade. Looks more like they just took removed the decorative elements from the original design. But yeah, hopefully they find a way to spruce it up a little..
  5. No idea, I'm not "in the know". I cant wait to get more details though.. Has anyone ever stayed at one of the more urban Loews to give us an idea of the amenities and layout? The Loews I stayed at in Miami had a 2nd tower that I believe was dedicated to an Elemis Spa. Also had an Emerils restaurant on site. I dont expect this development to have the sprawling landscape/water features/huge pool area/etc like the Miami one, but I'm hoping the development will still be extravagant.
  6. Ahhh. Ive been hoping a Loews would come to Houston! We stayed at the one in Miami back in '09 and it was amazing. Granted it doesnt seem like this site would have enough space to have nearly as many "resort" style offerings. Hopefully they find a way to implement those fantastic amenities into a more urban style setting.
  7. What good would owning any of those dilapidated structures be? Would you have to pay taxes on those structures? If so then privately owning them makes even less sense. I guess you might be able to salvage a small fraction of the materials that aren't completely trashed, but the structures in general are in a state of disrepair. Getting 18 wheelers out there to move the houses around surely isn't free, so someone seems to be investing something into them.. I just can't figure out why? They are an eyesore, to say the least.
  8. Interesting that this video started making the rounds again. A buddy of mine shared it to my facebook about three years ago. But yeah, definitely has some issues in the design and would only work on busy streets without overhead obstacles.
  9. Does anyone know what's up with those run down houses on the side of 288 around Iowa Colony? They had trucks out there about a year ago and I was hoping they would haul them off but they just moved them around/possibly added more(?). Someone took the liberty of tagging them up with graffiti. They are falling over with front porch awnings hanging down and roofs seemingly caved in. Who owns them/why are they there? They look so bad. I've heard a rumor that about a decade ago the city put them there so their police department could patrol 288/set up a speed trap, but I don't know the truth behind that or what they're still doing there..
  10. I wonder if this is the same football countdown sculpture thats been in front of IAH, or if there are multiple countdown sculptures?
  11. Looks to be right across Burnett Station from Hardy Yards, at the Daly Street Park and Ride lot. "Combined with two adjacent parcels of land the school already owns, the 17-acre tract will give it control of 27 contiguous acres bordered by White Oak Bayou to the west, North Main to the east, the Union Pacific railroad tracks to the north and the existing UHD campus to the south."
  12. It definitely seems to be rising faster now that its above the casino podium portion.
  13. I just noticed the Miesian Barcelona Chairs.. man this place had it all.

  16. Yep.. No surprise. Even last May on a downtown development tour one of the guides was commenting on how far behind it was in terms of trying to meet the "fall 2016" schedule.
  17. I wonder when they plan to start. I noticed one of the strips of lighting has come loose on one side and is dangling down over the sidewalk..
  18. But we cared.. Does Hines not care about the people of HAIF?!
  19. I may be late to the party, but I just realized this is taller than Pelli's 40 story Four Leaf Towers..
  20. Wow, what a bummer after all that talk of building a new stadium downtown. Ah well, I'm sure it will be nice.
  21. Yeah, they have an interesting interpretation of "topping out".. Have they built floor 48 yet? Maybe thats what they're referring to? Or John Pickard happened to be in town so they all went over to the tower and had an early "celebration". Heh. The tree doesn't normally come until the final structural beam is placed.
  22. So all of your Kanye references are actually serious.. It was hard to tell. Ugh, this vacancy sucks.. 300,000 sq ft of space hitting the market while Hines tries to lease up 609. I guess at least it sort of fills (some of?) the Shell Plaza vacancy.. This tower should be more attractive/easier to lease out.
