  1. Woah.. Nice find. Interesting that there are multiple circlular targets, just like a TopGolf. And that elevated booth definitely hasn't been there long. I would hope they would face the range towards downtown though, not the ship channel.. I wonder if this is how TopGolf generally tests sites? I'd go back through satellite history to look at the site on i10 or Spring but Google Earth on mobile doesn't seem to have that feature..
  2. Bummer they put the parking in the front instead of behind the L. Whats up with the "Future East End Museum and Cultural District"? I haven't heard about that but it sounds like it could have potential. Would the businesses be moving then? There are two brick buildings (Dixie Plating Co and General Supply & Equipment?) that could be converted into gallery space. Maybe use the metal awning style warehouse north of Palmer for a farmers market (I noticed it has a covered loading dock that could be a nice area for food trucks).. possibly incorporate art into the market in some way (vendor booths, live demo work space, etc)? It looks like the railroad tracks have been completely abandoned through there, though there appear to be a few rail cars sitting near Commerce. The rail cars could be rolled north onto the site and incorporated as additional gallery space or installations in a unique setting. Maybe pave along the tracks as a pathway going from the bayou trails/Tony Marrow Park to Commerce? Idk, just throwing some ideas around after glancing over google maps.. Why does it show the Maritime Museum location where it is? I thought it was going at the Turning Basin..
  3. I was thinking that too when I read the part about empty space. Just move them up and renovate the ground floor for retail. Im not sure what kind of mobile trucks you're referring to (retail?), but maybe they could use the HOB loading dock when there isn't an event going on there?
  4. Im not sure how the "colors are ugly".. Its got every color you could imagine. I think one of the most important aspects of Renner's work isn't necessarily the sculpture itself (though I do think they look cool), but the fact that all of the painting is done by the people of Houston. His work is a community event which brings us together. Now when the people who helped paint see the finished product, they can take pride in knowing that they were a part of it.
  5. So rich people = liberals..? Got it.. I would hardly say "rich people" are the only ones who want this torn down. But yeah, it would be nice if there was a bigger increase in capacity to accommodate for future growth. With that in mind, I ramble/propose this.. With all this money proposed to be spent (I heard the downtown section alone would run around $4 billion), why not expand the existing i69, and cut/cover a section of 45 past midtown from say Crawford, to where the highway would open up at the dip south of W Dallas? Since they would be saving money from not having to build an elevated 45 along the stretch of i10 (plus ROW acquisitions for the properties west of St Emanuel, and the entire Clayton Homes subdivision) the total construction costs would theoretically come out under the $4 billion that the proposed plan was projected to cost, and they could spend whats left over to make i69 drop under Capitol and pop up after Commerce, so there would still be a section of appealing surface connectivity/green space between the east end and downtown (IMO as much as the green space behind GRB would be cool, it seems kind of pointless granted the GRB would still be blocking the east end from downtown). It would be a win-win-win. Midtown would have an unsightly elevated highway removed, while getting at least 10 blocks of green space (not only would that be of use to Midtown residents, but would help with the green space desired for southern downtown residents). The linear green space would even retain a distinguishable "barrier" between downtown and Midtown. The East End would have part of an unsightly highway removed, while getting an appealing surface connection with green space between it and downtown. And the one that no one ever mentions.. the Near North Side wouldn't have to look at a new elevated i45 highway. What do y'all think? Sorry for the long post.. If i can figure out a way to re word it better and y'all like it, maybe it would be worth sending to TxDot.
  6. So the Hilton needs a Rockets bar/restaurant, and a lazy river. How to outdo the Texas shaped lazy river though? Maybe a road map of Houston, with the 3 loops as the lazy rivers, connected together with the highways going into downtown? Downtown could be an island in the middle of it all with a performance area/stage on it, possibly revolving? Throw in some overpass styled bridges to walk over the water "roads" and you've got yourself a swimmable ode to Houston. Ok, I might of taken that a little too far..
  7. I've noticed on mobile that becauss I hit the quote button days ago on a certain post, but decided to never follow through with a response, now every time I try to comment on that thread the post I quoted days ago pops up into the response box. And I can't delete it..? I even tried holding down on the box to get the options to pop up but none of that would delete it.
  8. Any word on a start date for the Lake Flato conservation building? Last year they mentioned construction was going to start this year.
  9. Why is Gables marked as "midrise"..? I wonder if this new site will have any stipulations for the buyer of the frontage property in terms of height/not wanting views blocked?
  10. Any new updates? In the background of the picture from ipic balcony in the ROD thread it looks like the crown is all framed out..
  11. Sooo.. how did it go over with the neighborhood?
  12. I agree, making the bus lane go through the Post Oak/610 frontage intersection always seemed silly to me. Good point about the S curve too. Great amendments all around! It would be nice to see this revision implemented..
  13. Ahh.. the good ole Cosmopolitan residents strike again. There are plenty of words I can think of to describe them. Unfortunately, they would all be censored on this forum.. Can the city/Uptown TIRZ sue them back? That could put them in their place..
  14. At one point someone on here had a webcam set up in their office at BG Group. Im not sure if its still working though or where the link would be..
  15. I was wondering how the first sound test would go over.. 120dB? Geez.. Any chance there is space where they could build a parking garage between the outdoor stage area and the neighborhood? Seems like it could be a win win. More venue parking, taking cars off the local streets, and a potential sound block?
  16. As it currently is, that "street" is only 6 blocks long. I get your argument, but its not like the city is allowing developers to abandoned blocks in the middle of a major thoroughfare.. Speculation.. Maybe the developers want the street abandoned so they can use it as a lay up site/have it closed down through the course of construction?
  17. I can't answer most of those questions, but that street dead ends at Main, so I don't see the big deal with "abandoning" it..
  18. YASSSSSSS!!! Its about time we get that Galleria announcement.
  19. Urb.. April fools was 5 days ago. Don't tease us like this! Heh. Is this still moving forward as originally envisioned? This would be absolutely amazing..
