  1. Haha.. I saw the back of one of the cranes at the hotel/residential tower barely peeking out behind the new Children's tower when I uploaded the picture to my computer, but I didn't figure that was obvious enough for most people to notice, so I didn't mention it. Good eye!
  2. Well, technically this thread is only for the Avenida Houston promenade, the convention center itself, and the GHP Building next door. Hampton Inn/Homewood Suites has its own thread on this forum, hence why it would be considered "off topic".. but im not trying to nit pick, was just trying to help you out. The discussion does often get side tracked into the other developments in the area though, since as you say, they are part of the overall Convention District.
  3. Construction from left to right: Texas Children's, Methodist, Memorial Hermann.
  4. Ah, I missed that.. was just trying to tie your post into this topic since the image of the mural you linked seemed off topic/is on the Hampton Inn/Homewood Suites building.
  5. He has a mural inside the convention center lobby, as part of their public art collection.
  6. The James Turrell tunnel? That's between the Beck building and the Weiss Law building.
  7. Theres a lumber yard north of i10 in the heights that has a big variety of specialty woods, etc.
  8. I may be making this up.. but isn't there an old hotel on the beltway by IAH with some sort of connector pedestrian bridge over the highway? I don't get on that side of town often but I remember reading a discussion about the hotel on here a few years ago.
  9. There's a much closer view of the excavation from the covered sidewalk area across from Franks/El where you can see behind the green fabric on a section of fence. I didn't think to take a picture though..
  10. I'm not sure I've seen the colored led roof outlines mentioned on this thread before. I was surprised to see that when driving by downtown the other night.. one building was lit red, the other in blue. Sorry for the terrible drive by picture.
  11. I don't mean to further sidetrack this thread.. but those LEDs are color changeable, to keep with the downtown lighting theme. Note the other blue building lighting.. I'm right there with you on including the whole crown though. I'm not sure why they didn't carry the led lighting down the full sides of the fins, where the mechanical floors are. Ah well.. Aria is looking great. The more it comes along, the more I appreciate how it's style is respectful to the surrounding Market Sqaure neighborhood.
  12. Did they ever release estimates from the visitor count over the Super Bowl Live event? They were originally anticipating close to a million people I believe, which is almost as many visitors as the park typically averages over the course of an entire year.
  13. I find this hard to believe... Beaver lives in the same neighborhood that my parents live in. He's not that rich.
  14. Why would they bring a separate crane in for the crown when they already have a tower crane..? Me thinks it's to dismantle the office tower crane?
  15. Interesting.. I didn't notice the sail silhouette. I wonder if they're still pushing for that office tower then? If so, that half of the block will likely be vacant for a few years at least.. I hoped they would try to land a high end hotel with condos on top. True on the developer wanting to keep their aesthetic options open. I mentioned the "blank slate" theory earlier in the week. Hopefully that's the case, but I agree that it would be nice to do something temporary to spruce it up in the meantime.
  16. I would love to see a tower that's respectful to the historical district too (International Tower looked awesome, but it would of been out of place on Market Square Park IMO), but since this block is outside the district, and from the garage proposal, I don't have high hopes. I wish the garage was brick with vines growing up trellises for screening over the open sections.
  17. Yep. Hopefully they're just leaving a blank slate so that when the tower is built, they can cover it in a matching facade.
