I wonder if they did more events like this similar to how POST has, if it would help build some momentum. I think they need to renovate the entire complex with a much more modern look. i.e. Montrose Collective3 points

{ Long time reader first time posting } I live in townhomes near by and was excited to see some activity happening. I’ve casually spoken with different crews over the months, they’ve all said different things- bar, restaurant, office space and event venue. I assume it’s going to be like Ironworks up the road.2 points

This is more of a question than a topic of conversation, but I couldn't find a whole lot of information so I was wondering if anyone had any news regarding this topic. I know back after Hurricane Ike hit the trolleys were damaged (not the bus trolleys) and that they were undergoing restoration. I had seen articles as recent as last year indicating they were close to coming back, but they weren't there when I traveled there in May of last year and haven't been back since. Does anyone know if they are operating again or is this one of those projects that is dragging along? Any word on when they may come back?1 point

There's a scene in an early Frasier when one of Daphne's exes comes to Seattle and is invited to the apartment and he looks out at the Space Needle and he thinks for a second and then says "Big", which is how I feel about this.1 point

Looks like they are going with Memorial Park, Shepherd/Durham, and Studemont.1 point

Berkadia shows a completion date of 10/1/22. At the rate they are going I doubt they will make it.1 point

With that timeline, they're either not starting on it for a while or TxDot is the contractor.1 point

The trolleys can be moved off the island the same way that they were delivered…on flatbed trailers, over the road.1 point

Change of plans, this according to the guy in the Chevron. The building facing W. Alabama St is supposed to be an auto glass place and the lot behind Chevron facing Montrose Blvd. is being sold.1 point

I attended the planning commission meeting online for my first time ever. Bunkhouse had 2 people that talked about the project, the construction company had 1 person that spoke. He said they would only use the south lot for worker's parking and lay down yard. Trucks would be limited to using only Loretto St. and Colquitt St. for delivery of materials. There were two people that live nearby that were worried about parking for guests, workers and visitors. At the 11th hour the developers created more parking to alleviate their worries about those concerns. But as the moderator said they were only concerned about the new plat for the hotel and not about parking. I think the commissioners knew that Menil would do good work and they all seemed to be all for this project.1 point

I love this last photo. This seems so foreign to Houston being that we’re so flat.1 point

There are tons of those around, but generally they come wrapped around a garage structure.1 point

I've seen grading going on recently at several places for the Brays trail segment connecting Fiorenza, Driscoll, and Storey parks. Once they complete this segment and the one eastwards from Storey park this might well be the longest bike path in the metro area, running from Brays Greenway Park on Buffalo Bayou all the way past Fiorenza park to about a mile or so west of Hwy 6. If they can figure out how to connect it to the trails in George Bush Park you might be able to ride almost to Fulshear on grade separated bike paths.1 point

Thought I'd bump this thread with a video from HOUExplorer showcasing the trolleys in action. It's about 5 months old, but great 4K quality footage showcasing the vehicles and the line (HOUExplorer has some other great transit videos from Houston, definitely check their channel out!):1 point

I'll never understand the vision to make Dallas St the "Retail" street Downtown when we've got plenty of actual retail spots & streets Downtown. Understand we need garages and entrances/exits, loading docks, garbage entrances, but a true retail street shouldn't have these obstructions and should be put in as an ordinance. Greenstreet was doomed from the beginning and perhaps too much of a head start. Downtown can really become a retail destination, especially with the East side and Midtown exploding with apartments & town houses. Likely another 20 years before that happens.1 point

Rough approximation of how the building is going to be divided based on the grainy site-plan. I did notice on the plan that they mention a canopy, which looks to be 8-10' off of the side of the building. This patio area has the potential to be rather glorious. East End is going to have some pretty good patios when you think about Fitzcarraldo, Acadian Coast, and even the Navigation Esplanade which is kind of a patio with all of those vendors.1 point
