Too Windy and Cloudy today to fly drone at Discovery Green, street and park views.

The water in the lake has been Green for a long time, maybe that's why it's called "Discovery Green?" 😄

Thats a pretty amazing picture when you think about what that part of town looked like in 2006, before Discovery Green was opened in 2008. Every building in the horseshoe shape was built after the park opened.

It's pretty amazing how just building an urban park can transform an entire neighborhood.  I moved to Houston in 2002 when the Hilton was under construction.   There was no reason to go to that part of Downtown unless you were going to the GRB.  I always tell people you couldn't have paid me to walk into East Downtown at night (or even during the day) and now I live there.

Also, I recently drove down Lamar from Avenidas to Labranch, and I wanted to nominate that 2 block drive for the most relaxing, soothing, and beautiful 2 block stretch in downtown.. It also always feels cool. Alternate perhaps Lamar at Bagby passed  Heritage park.?

...and that area will be hopping next weekend with all of the Final Four festivities!

I didn’t realize it until coming up to 45 from 59 today but the colors of this mesh very well/are respectful to the other buildings around that part of the park. The exterior columns and painted blank walls on the back side match the red brick of OPP and the glass matches Hess tower.

Not sure when this building will be completed? Hopefully sometime this year. 
I haven’t taken any recent pics due to the Final Four activities at Discovery green, also the wet weather and windy conditions.

Skanska USA is progressing on its 1550 on the Green office tower downtown. Earlier this month, in a four-hour time frame, landscape architects installed:

• 55 trees ranging in size from 65 to 200 gallons.
• 85% Texas-native wooded, floral and arid plant species on over 16K SF of terraces.
• A 48,000-gallon rainwater collection system.
• A robust drip irrigation system throughout the project, including on all terraces.
