Brooklyn173
I don't Sydney had a Metro system when they had the Olympics (though they are building a system now). But even if they did, building a heavy rail system that would only be at full capacity for a few weeks, seems foolish.

I think our jungle -like heat and humidity during our summer may have more to do with no Olympics than a heavy rail system. Great for the vegetation though.

I just saw a video on Youtube about how bad it is in NY right now. So I'm going to assume the development in Montrose is going to be on hold for a while. This sucks. A guy associated with Skanska spoke at one of the Neartown Association meetings 3 or 4 months ago and I specifically asked him if the Montrose project would have an office component and he said no. It will be strictly mixed use, residential and possibly a hotel. He said they would start planning the specifics when 1550 On The Green was finished and a possible start date in '25. 17

Popular Post hindesky
I noticed the Skanska construction trailers were gone so I stopped to talk with some of the guys I saw in their parking lot. First guy in pic 1,2 said he was a contractor and told me he has to be finished by this Wednesday. Next guy I saw worked for Skanska so I asked him when the grand opening might be. He also confirmed mid month Feb. date. He also said he will be going to a renovation job Skanska has at one of the MD Anderson buildings. He also mentioned that they are also working at one of the Shell Oil buildings. He didn't know a timeline for the other building downtown or the Montrose project. They were in the process of taking down the construction netting.

Popular Post hindesky
A 28-story tower is opening this week in downtown Houston, reshaping the skyline near Discovery Green park. Developer Skanska USA has substantially completed construction at 1550 Lamar Street, the first piece of Discovery West, a 3.5-acre mixed-use project. Dubbed 1550 on the Green, the 375,000-square-foot, $225 million tower includes ground-floor space expected to be filled by restaurants. While it’s not the tallest tower downtown, the multi-tiered, curved structure — which places elevators on the west side of the building rather than at the center — is a unique addition to downtown’s architectural landscape. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/real-estate/article/downtown-houston-tower-opens-discovery-green-18665953.php

editor
I just walked past, and the retail space to the left of the main entrance is being kitted out for something called OTG Coffee. Always happy to have another coffee option. Hopefully it notices that there are lots of potential customers in the park at night, and stays open. Even the Starbucks in the Hilton sees that, and serves booze after office hours like the one I used to frequent in Seattle.
