Thanks for the update. I'm looking forward to Gatsby's Grill at 2929 Navigation Blvd, Suite 200.

Gatsby Hospitality is really moving full steam ahead with all of these new business ventures. I hope they are able to succeed here.

More about Gatsby's Grill was reported in a CultureMap article yesterday. Gatsby's Grill will be located at 2929 Navigation Blvd, Ste 200.

"The team behind Gatsby’s Steakhouse will soon have a more casual option for Houstonians. Called Gatsby’s Grill, it *open early next year in the former Acadian Coast space on Navigation Boulevard."

As for the design:

"'We’re going to give it our Gatsby’s touch,' Rodriguez says. 'You’ll probably see some chandeliers, some marble walls. There will be elements that let you know it’s a Gatsby’s restaurant.'”

*More on the opening timeline:

"With Acadian Coast having closed last week, renovations to turn the space into Gatsby’s Grill will begin soon. While Rodriguez acknowledges he’d like to open in December, the realities of hiring and training a staff will probably push things to January. "

I think there are two restaurants in total so far from Gatsby Hospitality: Gatsby's Prime Steakhouse and Gatsby's Prime Seafood.

Add in Norwood and Gatsby's Grill coming soon, and the total comes to four restaurants, excluding bars from the group.

Seems ambitious...

It does seem ambitious. However, I think their current restaurants do well because of the locations and the demographic Gatsby's caters to.

As for Gatsby's Grill, I don't know. In the CultureMap article, one of the owners said he wants the restaurant to be a casual sports bar environment and family-friendly. It may work but I have reservations. I hope they're able to attract the customer base they're seeking.

Gatsby's is now open for Lunch.

Best of luck to Gatsby's Grill, but the menu is pricey. Granted, the pricing is comparable to Acadian Coast; however, I was under the impression this would be more of a grill concept, albeit an elevated bar & grill.

And yes, pricey is subjective. Still, I don't see this being the kind of family-friendly establishment parents with multiple children will choose to dine.

This is what the owner told CultureMap in regards to the atmosphere he wants for Gatsby's Grill:

Luis Rangel always contemplated a more casual alternative to their smash hit Montrose steakhouse. He cites Eight Row Flint and Kirby Ice House as two examples of places he likes to spend his time away from Gatsby’s.

“That’s the vibe I like, an open, airy, outdoor experience. You can take your dog there, your kids. You’re not going to break the bank,” Rodriguez says. “We knew we wanted to introduce our version of a fun, approachable, family friendly, sports bar type environment.”

If you ignore the steaks, that menu is fairly reasonable. You have several sandwiches and burgers in the $12 to $15 range. That’s consistent with an “elevated” bar & grill.

Does it need to be? I (and I’m sure many others) are more inclined to visit if it isn’t.

I know that’s what he stated the goal was in the article, but that could just be dismissed as trying to put a spin on it to drum up enthusiasm. Besides, the two places he mentioned by name aren’t exactly “family friendly.”

I ate here Friday evening. Had the Anaya's burger and a few drinks. Burger was good, and the margarita -- server's recommendation -- was comparably priced to El Tiempo/Ninfa's but in my view not quite as good. Like the above comment, if you veer away from the steaks, it's not too bad. Manager came over and chatted. Stated they feel they understand the area's needs and hope to further tailor the menu to them once they get going.

Fair point. However, since this was promoted as a family-friendly bar, the pricing isn't appealing to some families with more than one child for a bar setting, even if it's elevated. The average family probably wouldn't choose to dine there frequently due to cost.

I'm indifferent about Gatsby's Grill being a welcoming space for parents and their kids. It's their business. They're welcome to run it the way they see fit. The point I was conveying, as you mentioned, is the owner's aspirations of Gatsby's Grill being a casual, family-friendly spot.  The prices don't appear to align with those goals for the average family, especially this being a bar & grill.

I understand plans evolve from the planning stage to opening. Perhaps, that's the case for Gatsby's Grill. And that's okay. But I'm going by the owner's words told to CultureMap.

I think it's odd too. However, the leasing materials are recent.

Their Instagram has been silent all month and if you read their comments for the last two it mentions they are closed. Not sure what happened but I hope whoever is next has a little more of a casual/ take out vibe.

I would love a top notch BBQ place (like Truth but obviously they aren’t coming) or even something like a Torchy’s (would be hysterical next to Ninfa’s and Tiempo)would be a welcome addition to the neighborhood and bring something a bit different.

If it’s not something like that, I think a concept that involves a bar would work well there. I selfishly would love a revival of pastry war.

That's odd. Gatsby's seems to be quite busy whenever I walk by.

the wife and I stopped at Roostar last Sunday. it was closed then, and should have been open.

it's easy to be under funded on a project and not end well, even if you have customers coming in.

Tried Gatsby’s once before a show at Hobby Center so we made a reservation. Got there and it was completely empty except for 2-3 tables and they told us it was going to be a wait and couldn’t give us a time for how long. Apparently short staffed. This was maybe 2 months ago.

Soooo basically it was no different than Acadian Coast. I wonder if they just carried over the same management/staff. To me, that was the real problem there (other than the overpriced menu items).
