bobruss
I'll be the first to agree that his restoration of the Rice, Dakota, Clarke Court on West Clay, and the Hogg Palace, are all exceptional projects that deserve the gold brick he was awarded and all of the accolades he has received. My displeasure with Randall Davis is the designs of his new buildings. Marginal at best. Thats just my opinion and I'm sticking to it. Urbannizer
they also have the Astoria listed as 30 stories, so maybe its still 10 floors? The article was correct, now 8-floors and 240-units. cloud713
slightly bummed this one wont be a high-rise anymore, but ill gladly take the infill/increase in residential population downtown. especially in this part of DT. is number 29 new? the "Planned 5 story by Leon"? i dont remember anything about that one.. HoustonIsHome
The business at this address, Binswanger glass has moved to 3313 McKinney. Hope the building didn't sit vacant for long, the homeless have already been using it as a campground for years now because the deep eaves provides excellent shelter.
toxtethogrady
I'm surprised they lopped two floors off the building. They didn't think they could find enough tenants?
Popular Post Urbannizer
Same design, just 2-floors cut from the original plan. http://www.houstoneb5.com/projects.cfm

HoustonIsHome
I am not sure if they are doing soil samples at this site, I saw some red clay on site in small cylinders. Looks like they were drilling into the earth. Didn't see any holes, they might have patched them because it looks like the thing shot up like a geyser. Looks like it sprung up some water.
toxtethogrady
And in other news, a city water main was found to have developed a leak...
HoustonIsHome
Lol, is that what happened? I really don't know how the soil sample drilling is supposed to look
toxtethogrady
Apparently something like that happened downtown. I'm not sure if soil sampling caused it.
HoustonIsHome
And in other news, a city water main was found to have developed a leak... No, I was right. The cylindrical clay drillings were soil samples. I noticed they were at strategic points all scross the lot. In other news the american fencing company started putting up a fence around the property about half an hour ago and the cherry demolition company is on site too. This building looks like it will be coming down soon
toxtethogrady
If that render is correct, that first floor is awfully tall...

HoustonIsHome
No lieYep. Thanks for the pic.I was planning on taking one but never got the chance. The cherry demolition truck didn't stay long, and out doesn't seem like any prep/ work had been done inside the building. It still hasn't been gutted. But the fence is a good sign.I had been noticing mpre homeless sleeping around this building since the glass shop moved in July. Hopefully the new building goes up quickly
hindesky
Is this the lot where Binswanger Glass was located? I took a pic of the fenced off lot today.
HoustonIsHome
Yep, looks like it to me.
HoustonIsHome
There is a small dumpster on the lot, they are starting to remove nonfixtures from the building. Danger tape had also been put up on the doors and windows
Urbannizer
They've altered the design:
Luminare
Yep, you are right Urbannizer. It's two floors lower, The blackish element and the open air element have essentially flipped. So now the blackish element is now next to the garage while the balcony has been thrown onto the roof.
monarch
their original budget must have collapsed! this current rendering is discombobulated... just awful! i am trying hard to be happy that another barren block shall indeed be filled to create density... but geeeez, it was so beautiful beforehand. cloud713
Is there another residential project between this and the Camden towers? I recall seeing a nicer residential midrise earlier today..

HoustonIsHome
Is this anything that would be missed? Don't remember the building.No. Non-impressive Single story building on a fraction of the lot, super huge setbacks.
