cspwal Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 So they've been actively working since the end of July, but today was the official groundbreaking http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2015/09/30/another-downtown-apartment-project-breaks-ground.html And either they changed the address to 1825 San Jacinto or HBJ got the address wrong 6 Quote

cspwal Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 This one seems to be going faster, probably because no basement parking. It'll be interesting to see which one opens first 1 Quote
HoustonIsHome Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Awesome progress. I wish the Pappas would move to this building and allow their current site across the street to be developed. A drive through Pappas downtown is such a poor use of space 2 Quote
cspwal Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 As long as that Pappa's doesn't close down entirely - I like walking to BBQ Quote
HoustonIsHome Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Yeah I don't want it to close. I'm fact I wish it was a little further west, so I can grab lunch and back in time. But being in a building like 1825 San Jac is more reasonable use of space than that drive through. But I know it had been discussed to death on here already Quote
Nole23 Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Will this apartment building have ground floor retail space? I don't recall it having any retail areas to put a restaurant unless I'm mistaken. Quote
cloud713 Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 It's part of the DLI incentives program, right? They have to have a retail component to qualify, I believe.. Quote
Nole23 Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 That would be great, but I don't think the Alexan Downtown has retail either... Quote
Urbannizer Posted December 30, 2015 Author Posted December 30, 2015 It's part of the DLI incentives program, right? They have to have a retail component to qualify, I believe.. I thought that was the case as well, but there's no mention of retail for this one. I'm eager to see the final product, one of the better designed mid-rises for Houston. 1 Quote
HoustonIsHome Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 Downtowns restaurant game is going to take the next step up once these residential units fill up 2 Quote

monarch Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 ^^^ good lord hindesky... that second illustration packs a huge WOW factor! Quote
HoustonIsHome Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 This is so much different from what was there before. Binswanger glass building sends far out of place with the vision for that area. The book store, public storage and that Pappas will hopefully in the next cycle be replaced with something better Quote
Chi-Char-Hou-Dal Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 I think since the redo - Pappas does good business and even is pretty full at night. With the new residents I see them only doing better. Book store and storage - good riddance. I know a few O&G engineers that get books from that specialized store though I imagine they could just go online? Quote

They say they can order anything if I find it, but so can I using Amazon. Going to a book store is all about trying to find a book And I am talking about trying to find engineering books. There is absolutely nothing that isn't a technical book Quote

I would love if Pappas would still be there, but in a building that makes better use of the land. Same with the bookstore. A drive through single floor building is such poor land use. 3 Quote

HoustonIsHome Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 This one street is only about 4 floors up so far but it already had a much more conan ding presence in the area. I took pictures, I need to upload them later Quote
