@gene I think once the word gets out about Rocambolesc opening in Houston (1101 Uptown Park Blvd, Ste 10), it will become one of many anticipated new eateries in the city.

It turns out the gelateria is from the Roca brothers. The Roca brothers are the force behind El Celler de Can Roca, a Michelin-starred restaurant that is also considered one of the best restaurants in the world.

A related entity for the Houston location is connected to the owner of Spanish restaurants BCN Taste & Tradition and MAD. So, maybe Rocambolesc's Houston storefront is a franchised location or will be a joint venture between both parties.

I don't know how I missed this. Gotta say, I'm stoked. I can't wait to see their design plans for the ice cream parlor.

Last month, Joan Roca briefly discussed  Rocambolesc opening in Houston with Saveur magazine:

The Rocas will soon open a gelateria in Houston called Rocambolesc as their first American venture. Rocambolesc, with its popsicles shaped like human noses and gelato encased in hot brioche, already has a cult following in Spain.

Rocambolesc teased the Houston location on Instagram last week before making it public earlier this week.

It was also confirmed the Houston location is going to be a collaboration with the owner of Houston's BCN Taste & Tradition and MAD restaurants.

According to CultureMap, Rocambolesc anticipates to open in late April at 1101 Uptown Park Blvd, Suite 10.

Regine's Mediterranean Restaurant that is taking over the old Tasting Room is now completely hollowed out...beginning late april, early may they will begin the build out.

and in more Rocambolesc news, one of my best friends works as a bartender at Mad and says they serve their gelato there and it's amazing so he has me even more excited about this place!

Is Regine's still moving forward? I reached out to Lombardi Family Concepts several times since January for clarification.

Around December, I heard their Lombardi's concept is opening in the Uptown Park development. I also saw listings for positions for Lombardi's in Houston around that time, however, a location was not provided.

This week, a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration lists construction plans for Lombardi's at Uptown Park. There wasn't a suite number listed, so I don't know if it is replacing Regine's, which was originally planned for the former Tasting Room unit.

The old Pot Belly Sandwiches across from M&S is going to be a Sweetgreen. There have been workers there nonstop for a few weeks now...(with all windows covered in Sweetgreen banners) I am not sure this is needed with Flower Child and Medocino being in the plaza and offering salads and more but hey at least it is new healthy alternative in the area...

Yesterday, an architectural barriers project for Duchess was registered with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Duchess replaces the Belvedere at 1131 Uptown Park Blvd, Ste 1  (1131-1 Uptown Park Blvd).

I'm not certain what Duchess is. It could be a bar, a lounge, or a restaurant. However, the filing indicates the space will undergo an "interior remodel of the existing [3,750 sf] bar space." Renovations are estimated to begin in April and possibly wrap up by May, according to the filing.

In regard to who may be the minds behind Duchess, it appears this could be a new concept from the owners of Uptown Sushi and Rebel Sushi.

As noted above, the owners of Uptown Sushi have plans for another concept at Uptown Park: Duchess. It's taking over Belvedere's former unit at at 1131 Uptown Park Blvd, Ste 01.

I think the team behind Lincoln Bar, Pour Behavior, Spring Street Bar, and others are partnering with Daniel Chang (Uptown Sushi) on this concept. I noticed one of Lincoln Bar's investors (who's also an investor for the forthcoming Montrose bistro The Chelsea) mention plans for Duchess in an Instagram story back in late January. If I'm not mistaken, it won't be either parties first time joining forces. I believe both groups are also partners in Sushi Rebel, an offshoot of Uptown Sushi.

I'm still unclear if this will be a bar, a restaurant, or both. Recent building permits include the following description: 3,750 sq ft convert bar to restaurant.

Below are select details pertaining to Duchess. The details are from building plans submitted to the city and were found in the plan review comments.

  • Duchess
1131 Uptown Park Blvd, Suite 0-1
    Houston, TX 77056

  • Proposed: 1,921 sf. convert bar to restaurant

  • Project Details

    • (a2)assembly @ 3,750 sq/ft

    • kitchen/service area @ 1,000 sq/ft

    • interior dining area @ 1,947 sq/ft

    • exterior dining area @ 1,308 sq/ft

From the submitted wastewater capacity reservation letter:

  • For 3,750 sq/ft full-service restaurant w/ 1,947 sq/ft of dining area, 1,308 sq/ft of patio dining and a bar with (17) occupants

As of last week, Duchess is on Facebook and Instagram. The possible dining and nightlife concept is planned for Uptown Park. It's taking over Belvedere's former unit at at 1131 Uptown Park Blvd, Suite 1.

I think there may be a domain registered too. There is a website for Duchess with only a landing page up. I'm not sure if it's tied to the forthcoming Uptown Park concept.

Duchess is a joint venture from Uptown Sushi and the team behind Lincoln Bar, Pour Behavior, Spring Street Bar, and others local hospitality concepts.

According to Duchess' recently launched Facebook page, it will be a restaurant and lounge. I don't know it if that means it will be a restaurant with a lounge component. I also don't know if it means it will be a supper club (aka vibe dining) establishment.

Does anyone have insight regarding J. Alexander's Holdings converting Merus Grill to J. Alexander's?

Merus Grill is located at 1180-1 Uptown Park Blvd in the Uptown Park retail development.

There was a J. Alexander's restaurant on Houston's west side several years ago. It was located at 11103 Westheimer Rd.

Merus Grill is no more. The restaurant recently transitioned into J. Alexander's. Also, the website for Merus Grill redirects to J. Alexander's.

J. Alexander's located in the Uptown Park retail development  at 1180-1 Uptown Park Blvd
