  1. One more week to go and P. Brown appears to be on top. I'm disapointed because he's my least favorite of the top three. Least favorite is putting it mildly. I do not like him. He seems dithering on topics and flails his hands, when he's answering a direct question, abstractly. This race is gaining such little attention that it'll sure be interesting to see who votes and who wins.
  2. This evening P&R buses going I-45N had to be rerouted because Travis was closed at White Oak Bayou (water on the road). A rail line would most likely be at an elevation that would not flood. Ever heard of express trains? Not all trains have to stop at all stops, especially when no one is likely getting off at many. Besides, trains would fill on the north end pretty quickly. Trains have no emissions, wheels don't blow out like tires, they are more energy efficient, hold more people and car life far exceeds that of a bus.
  3. The Les Givral people are opening a new place between their Mkt Sq restaurant and La Carafe. It going to be called ERA. The sign on the top of that building says Cafe Adagio, but I don't think that venture ever got off the ground. Anyway, the card I saw said dining and entertainment. It also had a picture of a cool round outdoor bar. I'm not sure where they would have an outside component, unless they did something with the roof.
  4. I googled Disco Kroger Houston. There is a blog where someone refers to the Montrose Kroger as "MoKro" and West Gray as "FauxKro". Had to share.
  5. We had Pink's delivered to a bar one time and I and others thought that it was some of the best stuff ever to go into our mouths. Of course, we wuz drankin'.
  6. Fiesta Dunlavy weekly flyer - I consider these prices good. $.59# - Leg Quarters $.77# - Drumsticks $.97# - Sirloin Pork Chops $2.99# - Tilapia Filets $3.49# - Boneless NY Strip $3.99# - Extra Large Skrimps!
  7. My data cube is atop my shoulders. I can literally remember what the price is of my items as they are scanning because I shop specifically for bargains. Ask me the prices now - not so much. I'm with Crunch and Dad. I go through all the weekly flyers and shop by meat prices. I really like the 'old meat' section at Kroger. Then, when at whichever store, I shop for what's on sale other than meat. I could care less what brand it is in most cases. I also buy bone in, skin on and the least processed items. I mostly go to Disco or Fiesta on Dunlavy, but the Kroger on Buffalo is a real shopping adventure since they remodeled. I went into the Buffalo Market once, but just for a birthday cake. I've heard it's laid out weird. I receive the glossy flyer for that HEB and their prices are consistently higher.
  8. MP has more detail and prettier glass, but Hess has a better location and will have those cool turbines. So, I like both, but that may change once they're complete. I can't wait to eat in the Hess cafeteria overlooking the park.
  9. Exactly. The Sunday before yesterday, it was cool, cloudy and dreary. A neighbor and I were bored and went to Kroger just for the hell of it. Of course we got a few things, but we did not go to get anything specifically. Wow, that looks pretty sad in written form.
  10. This was not Disco Kroger, it was PrettyPeopleKroger on W. Gray, so they were probably drunk on martinis and valium.
  11. It's been called Disco Kroger since the disco era of the late 70's. We locals now lovingly call it "Crack-Head Kroger", especially the late-nite (24/hrs) crowd. The other Montrose Kroger on W. Gray is referred to as the "Pretty-People Kroger" Actually, the old Walgreen's (now Soundwaves) was referred to as Disco Walgreen's, but that changed when they moved in to the fancy new building. This clip was done at Paks on W. Alabama @ Flora. The choreography shames those amateurs and it tells a touching story. (I don't know how to embed.)
  12. No just corn. Carrots are for a boulognese sauce, not chili.
  13. I've seen it with corn, and I'm like WTF?
  14. GET OFF MY ALLEY! How is that going to work? Will they have a bar set up outside?
  15. I used to work on Westcott - pre circle. Just looked it up and northbound between Washington and I-10 is in fact, Washington. Southbound from 1-10 to the circle is Westcott - go figure. At any rate, this is going to be a pain in the butt for people going to, say, the Galleria or Bellaire. I'm still confused though, because it says nothing about closing Woodway. Why would they put you on Westcott?
  16. No, but I remember Shwegman's in New Orleans as a child. It was a pit. My parents used to make fun of it and the people shopping there. They sold everything from clothes to ground beef. I guess it'd be considered the early version of a now pitted out Super Walmart. Oh yes, Piggly Wiggly and A&P, Winn Dixie and Jitney Jungle. I've never been in the Kroger that I can remember and won't until it's remodeled. If it turns out anything like the Kroger on Buffalo, you Heightsonians are going be ectastic. That store rocks!
  17. Charles A. has been very smart in that he's bought up some dilapidated properties and made parking lots. I must say that they're landscaped very nicely too. Then, he's got a shuttle bus that circulates through the area with dropoffs at his bars. It looks like he's bought a string of houses along Crocker(?) near Katz's. You can see the SOBE barricades in front of them. I hope these aren't torn down though, they look to be in pretty good shape. I'm not sure how a parking lot would look at the end of Avondale. Just got a google map view and these houses appear to be doomed, the old Felix parking lot is on the back side of them. This would allow for a pretty sizeable parking area.
  18. Yes, it has arrived. I just had to get out and take a walk. They're setting up (sound testing) for some event in Jones Plaza. I can't wait to get out of here and go camping. It's going to be awesome!
  19. Are they letting people park in the old Hyde Park Supermarket lot?
  20. I just noticed that there is scaffolding around the dome of the old courthouse. I wonder what's going on?
  21. "The westbound lanes of Memorial Drive beginning at the fork at Woodway to Loop 610" Westbound Washington dead ends into Westcott.
  22. Interesting, it doesn't sound legal. How are they supposed to know who's a resident anyway?
