  1. A little off topic, but more secret window watcher stuff... I used to work in One Shell and we watched this bum come by every day and dig out half-eaten food from garbage can. One day, we bought him breakfast at McD's and left it in the can. He opened it up, looked at it and threw it back! Needless to say, we onlookers had a field day with that.
  2. We used to look at swimming pool-goers with binoculars, at the Oaks, from the Galleria II Towers
  3. I remember when A&F was in Post Oak Central, believe it or not.
  4. Banana Repub was at (say) the southwest corner of the ice rink, on the second or third level of the Galleria I. I think it was more like the late 80's. I worked in the Galleria Towers during the mid 80's and think it came later.
  5. Does anybody remember the Yogurt Culture on the second level of the Galleria II? They made a killer quiche. Oh, nevermind, guys don't eat quiche.
  6. That other store would be Neiman Marcus, a Texas (Dallas) chain. Oooh La La.
  7. 24's signage is up - at least on the Louisiana side.
  8. There's one downtown somewhere. Maybe in the tunnel. Ben & Jerry's is in the Rice.
  9. I tried the one near Reliant. It's the first fried chicken place that I've been to where I was served on an actual stoneware plate. They also have a bar! However, I found the chick to be a bit greezy.
  10. Here's a picture of the Texas Tower, which is the only building on that block. Phone pics were taken from a 3rd floor Magnolia Hotel restroom. Oh well, I don't know how to attach the files.
  11. I was referring to the "this topic" link on post 95. That is not a picture of the Texas Tower. Also, on post 32, I just see a block map, not a picture of a building.
  12. I'm going to reserve my comments until it is completed. I do not like the rendering, but in many cases, I find the final product appealing.
  13. That's not at all the building in question at Texas and Main. Actually, the building is on the northeast corner of that block at Texas and Fannin.
  14. OMG - Power Tools. Brings back memories of slam dancing and such. It was cool how you went down from street level on the banks of the bayou.
  15. I'm pretty sure Johnson/Burgee designed the Transco/Williams Tower Water Wall. Philip Johnson is dead, so I kind of doubt it. I was correct about Williams Tower Water Wall, but have no idea about the one in TMC and did not even know that it existed until I saw the picture. http://www.flickr.com/photos/everettt/874382885/
  16. I just walked by there on my way to Cafe Express. The Shamrock sign is still up. I just saw the back of the Texas Tower, but I was around the other side recently and I believe the tower is unoccupied. I also remember for sale signs and covered windows. This will probably be imploded. You're right, there is no Texas Tower in the rendering. The building that appears to be in the L-shaped crevice of the new tower is actually across Fannin. I think the L-shape is an illusion. My first impression was that it steps back slightly from the 'face'.
  17. This is interesting regarding local architecture awards going to smaller projects. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headli...es/5758979.html
  18. Is this it? http://www.houstonarchitecture.info/haif/i...showtopic=10539
  19. I saw the link earlier on the City Centre blog. If CC and Mandarine were the same project - I don't know. Nice building (rendering) though.
  20. Anything will be better than a hole in the ground with a fence around it.
  21. I don't care that it's an office building; I just don't think the design fits that location.
