  1. Um, I think she proposed a needed change at the top (ie: Hurtt). Can you give a couple of positive examples of what Locke has proposed in order to combat crime? Yeah, hire more officers... they both agree on the need, but funding would be an obsticle there.
  2. I'm not biased because I'm gay or because she lives down the street, but I don't think he made a good appearance, especially for an attorney. I think there are too many associations that he has ties to and you can't simply turn off that off after you are elected, as he stated. BTW - his headquarters is just around the corner. Either would be fine with me, but I feel her knowledge of city finances would be an advantage for us, during these troubling economic times. See you Friday? Hope you can make it. Omelet the voters decide.
  3. I know. Because I'm watching the Ch13 debate right now.
  4. Yay! Omelet Music coordinate the snackage. Let me know how I can contribute.
  5. It's not topped out yet, is it? I've not had the opportunity to see it for any length of time in person, so I can say about the height appearance.
  6. They sure did like to arrest them colored womens.
  7. Not about the park, but it is Mkt Sqr. Something is going on at the western end of the Henkle Bldg. There's paper on the windows and a permit that says something about minor restaurant remodel. I don't even recall what was in there previously. It's to the left of Les Givrals.
  8. Cop horses drink out of those too. They removed that ugly, propeller-looking sculpture this week. I remember reading that it would be incorporated into the new park design. Maybe they are getting ready to start construction.
  9. No, there was another one. I do remember Lee's Den too though. Oh, remember El Chico's over near where Al's Formal Wear is? I think that's where I had my first Mexican Food that wasn't Taco Bell. Edit: September 17, 1982 El Chico 7707 South Main 797-9311
  10. Why was there a hill there? Was the Gateway where the Super Target is now? Also, wasn't Stadium Bowl there too? Sorry with all the questions, but what was the name of that really good Chinese Restaurant that was right in that area up until at least the late 80's or early 90's?
  11. Unlawfully wearing emblem of a secret order - WTF?
  12. In my neighborhood, they ticket if you're parked less than (15' I think) from a stop sign. They also ticket for blocking sidewalks, even if it's your spare tire on the back. Parking in front of the hidden fire hydrant will result in immediate towing.
  13. I can see it out of my window and haven't noticed any movement. Someone did say a while back that they were putting the dirt from the Ballet project over there. It's been spread adjacent to that giant (former) warehouse foundation.
  14. Will Mayor White run for govenor? http://blogs.chron.com/texaspolitics/archives/2009/11/schieffer_out_b.html
  15. This is a massive building. Citizen was talking about similarity in buildings a few posts back. Keep in mind that the building pictured first is the Alkek Building and is not new. Additional floors are being added and you can't very easily change the design of the addition.
  16. Well, it was a quote from an individual, not their own words - hahaha.
  17. From Ch 2. HOUSTON, Texas -- Houston city council members will listen to homeowners, debate, discuss, and then vote on a proposed ordinance to improve parking in neighborhoods near the hot spots on Washington Avenue. <LI>WATCH IT: Ordinance Would Affect Heights Parking If passed, the ordinance would distribute resident-only parking permits for homeowners on the streets. Also, no parking signs would go up, forcing bar customers to park in pre-paid lots or elsewhere. "Homeowners say they are fed up with all the trouble bar customers cause in the middle of the night," said Lydie Tran. "They are shouting, they slam doors and sometimes very disrespectful." "Your talking about five bars in a row in a two-block radius. There is no way our neighborhood can handle all that traffic," said Meg Poissant. Bar owners say they are aware of the problem but their hands are tied. "We don't own the property so we can't expand," said a bar manager. "Also crime comes along with the problem, because cars are being broken into." A public hearing is scheduled to be announced soon.
  18. Yes, it's a male dress maker, gurl. I think he and his State Trooper partner live in that building. Those dresses look exclusive and expensive.
  19. I used to work down that way, but haven't been back in a while. There's a Perry's west of 45 on Scarsdale. They have (or had) a gynormous pork chop day. Seriously, they were about 3 inches thick. This is not a fancy Perry's. It's a meat market, with burgers, fajitas and such. At the other end of the strip center, there was a vietnamese place that we ate at regularly because it was good. I can't remember the name. In between these places, there was a Chinese grocery. Pretty interesting stuff in there. On Dixie/FM 1959 there was a place called Gardenia's. It's between I-45 and Hwy 3. Simple Mexican fare, but I always thought it was good.
  20. Where? The one on Weslayan @ Bissonnet is gone. Are they out in the 'burbs?
  21. I miss Luther's. I also miss Gabby's all-you-can-eat ribs. I don't like Otto's in the tunnel DT. Also, Pappa's does not quite satisfy.
