  1. Perhaps, but the quality is no where near what it used to be.
  2. It was Big Frank's, both on Montrose and Kirby. The one on Montrose closed years before the one Kirby. I miss not having any all beef wiener options any more.
  3. I was upset when Weiner's closed. That's where I used to by my Levi's for less. Back to wieners, does anyone remember what the wiener shack was named on Montrose? It was where that Slider's place is now, even before the Chinese joint.
  4. I just saw a bolt of lighting strike, probably between I-45N & US 59, and between the North Loop and North Beltway. It struck and was followed by and orange glow from the ground. I've never seen that before. I'm miles away, downtown. Wonder if that's got a name?
  5. I wonder where the measurements were taken prior to IAH and Houston International/Hobby? Also, what is the phenomenon that causes most of the rain to go up the east side? This is the third year I've been able to observe this from Downtown. Like last year, everywhere else was dry, but sure enough, the east end got it almost every day.
  6. Dude, der wienerschnitzel was fast food - hot dogs, corn dogs and such.
  7. Yes, I've set another recording for 10p CDT. I guess I'll reserve comment until I can see the episode through.
  8. I saw most of it, but the bad weather messed up my DVR and it was cut short. Don seemed somewhat dark and unlikeable. Peggy seems to have come out of her shell a bit.
  9. We had one in Montrose, just east of the curve on Westheimer. There was also a Prince's drive-in where the Valero is now.
  10. And this is Joan's ride...
  11. Yay! I found AMC at Ch#795 and set the DVR to record Sundays @ 9p. I'm all set for season 4. I like the remote DVR progamming feature of U-verse. The show will also be broadcast on Times Square 07/25. I think Don should drive an Oldsmobile Toronado (front wheel drive), but they didn't come along until '66. What year(s) will season 4 be set? Back then, I don't think people kept cars for more than 3 years or so, especially a Caddy. Is it because the cars were worn out or that the designs changed so drastically from year to year that it made previous models appear old and outdated?
  12. Ha. That made me pee a little. I've just finished season 3 on Netflix. I can't seem to locate it on AMC, using U-verse. I am officially hooked.
  13. Isn't TMC larger in square footage size than downtown Dallas (CBD)? I don't understand the comparison with Uptown Dallas.
  14. I agree that the Calpine is superior in design appeal, but I remember seeing wind studies after Ike and this building was the cause of the vortex that took out all of those windows at Chase. Plus, the elevators hurt people.
  15. Maybe he was going to blow his horn on the way down. I remember when someone drove off of the Houston House parking garage. However, it was an accident. It was kind of freaky to find out years later that you knew the dude.
  16. The art walk is at a higher level than the dog park, so no dookie will be involved. Friday, they removed the walk-on portion. Over the weekend, they removed the rest of the concrete, which had formed, inset 'art boxes' in the walk. Today, they're installing plexi-glass (I guess) between the crescent-shaped art walk and the dog area. It looks like you'll be able to stand above on the walk and look through to see the doggies play.
  17. They poured the brown concrete for the art walk recently and they're already tearing it up. This is a curved walk to the east of the doggie run. Apparently, some of the poured sections did not match up in color.
  18. I just noticed them spinning for the first time today. I guess I should turn my chair around more often. Let's hope that one of these many rainstorms of late doesn't short something out. This building has turned out amazingly accurate to the renderings.
  19. They need to keep that filth out in the suburbs:lol:
  20. Just read that Skybar (Cody's) may be closing 07/03 (and possibly the whole buidling). I want to get one last glance at that pano-view and it will be Fri happy hour. I'll stay tuned. UB too!
  21. If this is the case, get up there and check out the view... best view of DT. A shame. I remember watching 4th fireworks up there. You could see DT, Hermann Park, Sharpstown and Clear Lake - really cool! All that was probably when it was Cody's. There's an old story about when it used to be a gay bar (way back) and some drunk queen knocked another one over the edge, to meet the ground and his/her death. I think asbestos is the problem. There's a topic on here somewhere that takes the 'new' development from Montrose to Yoakum. No time to research now. From what I can recall, is that the entire building would sell for $300k, but the cost of bringing up to code would be $zillions$. Recent Flashback: Lighting hit the northeast corner behind the stage sometime last year. It blew off some bricks, onto the sidewalk. I spoke with HFD about it; they were shopping at the Disco K after their call. I'll try to get up there tomorrow evening and get the scoop. Hope they still have the happy hour, free buffet. Good luck, Scott.
  22. Maybe I was thinking of a club called Cowboy or something. If I remember correctly, that was across Sage from Cooters.
  23. It was on the western end of Windsor Plaza. If I recall correctly, it was a kickerish-type club. I was refused entry once in the 80's for having on white K-Swiss shoes.
  24. I think you're talking about Fairview, which is also a thru street. In 30 years, I don't think I've ever been at that intersection when there weren't cars at all four points. A stop sign that I think is stupid, is on Taft southbound at Pacific. I think this one is there primarily for revenue generating purposes (roll-thru tickets).
