1. Our hawk is back. I find it odd to see such a majestic in the middle of the city. Someone saw it catch a pigeon in flight the other day. On another note, I have a friend who took his niece and nephew to Hermann Park. They were feeding the squirrels when a hawk swooped down and snatched one right in front of them. Kind of funny to me, but certainly traumatic for the kids.
2. They put up a cyclone fence around the park today.
3. Is that a steel-framed structure? I was under the impression that poured concrete is now the preferred method, especially since the WTC's basically melted.
4. Segway - maybe that's the limitation for traveling between Katy and Pearland. Seriously, this thread has me ROTHLMFAO.
5. Is it true that the inauguration will be at Discovery Green? If so, she'll be the first gay/controller/council member, lawyer, police chief, big money dude, good-ole-boy, etc. mayor to be sworn in there. Now, that's historic.
6. Um, a first date - Really? Call me old fashioned (not bowling alley old fashioned) but dinner at a restaurant between Katy and Pearland seems like a no-brainer. I vote for the Grove and DG. It's all right there, really cool and you park just once. Depending on the weather and what activities are planned, it would give them time to stroll around and get to know one another.
7. I'd highly recommend Feast on lower Westheimer. Just remember to save the cow skull served on top of your entree, Red wants to make a hat.
8. I think Phil Archer does a good job. I just had a flashback. Remember when Dr. Red Duke used to do spots on 13? Elma Barrerra has to have the most amusing name when said.
9. I just remember big stories such as Enron, Allison, Andrea Yates, etc. and they ended the piece with (name) NBC News, Dallas. I remember thinking, boy, I bet Dallas really appreciates that.
10. Seems to me that the restaurants and bars that are there now have been there from quite some time (ie: Treebeards, etc.). The Les Givrals people are adding two more eating places, on either side of their existing restaurant. At lunch time anyway, all of those restaurants around Mkt Sqr are packed.
11. ...and a bank drive-thru. If I remember, back in the day, it was the Bank1 motor bank.
12. I'm excited about the Niko Niko's component.
13. I don't understand - "The Main St one". I understood the question to be whether the sunken route at Fannin and Holcombe was added. It was not. The train takes the street route, which has been sunken for many years. Note: This underpass has flooded several times and that stops rail service. You have to bus it from TMC-TC to the next station (or opposite). CH2 reports right now, that federal funding has been approved for engineering work on the U-Line. Bring it!
14. Ah, St. Joe's without the giant cross. The giant Ma Belle robot building and 2016 Main. It's interesting that the electrical thingy was there way back then. It's amazing that we're considered a less densely populated city - I mean, look at the comparison of what it was.
15. I had forgotten. Way back when, when he was healin' and bringing back people from the dead and , he called out for money for his university, because God said if he didn't raise the money, he'd die. This was on the national news tonight.
16. Love the 'real' photos. I saw Mary in the Cancer Monument fountain - without even squinting.
17. No, Lanier beat her. She had lost her ooomph after a decade.
18. IMO, Kathy Whitmire was one of our best mayors ever. She brought the good-ole-boy network and mentality to an end. She governed without major scandals and such. To my recollection, Brown was a good police chief - not so much as mayor. HPD was dumping bodies into Buffalo Bayou and things like that, prior to his arrival. She also appointed the Metro guy from Atlanta. At the time, he really turned Metro in the right direction. Hell, in the summer of 1979 or 1980 (heat wave), prior to his arrival, they were cutting out the windows of buses because the A/C units could keep up. Stupid!! So, what I'm saying is that we did NOT have the talent locally at the time of her appointments. We were more of a S-kicking, boot-scootin' cow town. She was mayor for 10 years! That's gotta say something.
19. Many prefer tubular vegetables. Did I say that?
20. Great to see you all. The drinks and rum balls were killer.
21. We had our "Potluck" yesterday and I can relate to your every word. hahahahahaha!!! See y'all in a bit. I think I'll bring the camera, since the santas will be there. FYI - I'm at home now and my HAIF looks normal. They must have done some sort of filtering BS at work. Quite annoying, I enjoy HAIFing at work. Oops, I overloaded with emoticons - three ha, ha's at each the beginning and the end. Rum balls, please. DANG, it won't even let me do two. Maybe, it's counting crunch's
22.

So what's the lowdown? Friday 12/11 @ 5:00. Warren's. My HAIF looks all freaky and it's hard to read. The formatting is all jacked-up. See you then. Now, I can't find 'Send' WTF?
23. I think she smoked him. Nice guy and all, but all 'answers' were generalities. Hers were much more specific. Someone spoke of the westside bizparts earlier. He mentioned flooding relief for the west side. WTH does it flood out west? Am I missing something? I voted yesterday at lunch and was surprised by the size of the crowd (crowd looks totally rong, sorry). EDIT: Who is Jolly on the Spot? The dude has problems with language.
24. I think they both want a soccer stadium. The city has already made its commitment financially. It's up to Harris County and the Dynamo to finish out their ends. She will probably gain votes from stating that the COH will not contribute any additional funding. I bet Mayor Bill pushed this through prior to leaving office, knowing that public funding of such venues is not currently a popular thing for a new mayor to take on.
25. I'm going to have to agree with you on that comment - the lesser of two dummies.
