  1. Hey, that train on the first link says Fannin South. Isn't that Sakowitz (garage) in the background?
  2. I don't agree. I think it's too much glass around all of that stone. It appears that this building is facing south (Saint Germain/Flying Saucer) and is on the block east of Main between Texas and Capitol. I like the design of the building, but on the fence regarding the design for this locale. This is the Market/Historic District, after all.
  3. High Street starts at Westheimer and goes north to Bettis. Highland Tower is on the north side of Bettis. River Oaks District Phase I will be adjacent to High Street, on the west.
  4. All I was saying is that removal of many billboards from our freeways would be an aesthetical improvement for everyone, including tourist. If an owner of a building wants to put up some screens on their property, I don't have a problem with it. Just like I don't have a problem with Fiest putting 'Vegas style' lights on their signs.
  5. Both Highland Tower and Sonoma, in the Village advertise that construction is to begin summer 2008, so the pipes poking out of the groud might very well be High St.
  6. Exactly. Many billboards have ads that are peeling off, made from telephone poles that are leaning. They just look ratty. A big screen can simply be turned off.
  7. There TVs, Man. Actually, I wouldn't be against a few electronic billboards around town, but the freeways being lined with them is a bit much.
  8. Now remember, he's interested in the High Street Project. This is the Highland Tower Project site.
  9. People have been trying to improve the image of Houston for as long as I can remember and I moved here in 1979. We had the "Houston Proud" campagn and now the "My Houston" campaign. IMO, both lame. They've been trying to get those unsightly billboards removed since the mid 80's. You have to admit, driving in from IAH, that 45 is unsightly and that's the first impression. Actually, it's the second, the first is from the air. I've been on a plane and people from the northern states are so amazed at how green it is. Another favorable impression for visitors is how friendly people are for such a large city. Anyway, efforts have been steadily made since the bust of the 80's and I think we're going in the right direction, but it'll just take some time. Now, back to HP - screens or no screens? I think they would look really cool on those silver boxes that someone pointed out. I think they would give an element of 'life' even though it's not like your going to sit there and watch it, unless there's a car chase or breaking world news, etc.
  10. I don't think it's stalled. Somebody posted some pictures on another link recently. It showed Discover Tower and Main Place 'holes'. It looked like they were shoring up the perimeters with concrete piling. I'm not sure at what phase a crane will be erected.
  11. Here we go again. High Street and Highland Tower have been the most confusing topics to keep straight. I guessed Jesse Jones prior to reading your response.
  12. If you'll notice, Crosspoint appears to own several consecutive blocks north of Elgin. They've got signs on many buildings, including that Legion Hall or whatever it was.
  13. You mean like yard dawgs nipping at your tires? Never heard of such a thing.
  14. Mia Bella's is awesome. I don't think they offer lasagna though. Oh, and they don't have ghosts.
  15. It's been a while, but actually Houston's at Westpark & Kirby used to have a real decent prime rib.
  16. It's not the second tallest building in Texas. It's not even the second tallest in Houston, it's the third. 1. Chase, 2. Wells Fargo 3. Transco/Williams. You would think that Hines would know their buildings better.
  17. It's not gastly, it's just not fancy Italian food. It's more like American-Italian. The lasagna is quite good and it's hard to eat the whole thing.
  18. Does anybody remember the Whataburger or der Wienerschnitzel on Westheimer at the curve, west of Yoakum? It was one of the old A-Frame structures and it was orange.
  19. I guess you at there for dinner. The lunch prices are about $7 or $8 for the lasagna and that comes with a salad. The story goes... The pharmacist that worked there was carrying a load of something in his arms. He walked into the elevator, which was not there. He fell and was killed. There may be two ghosts, but the one I remember hearing of is the ghost of his wife that is there looking for him (still). The elevators at The Niels Esperson Building are supposed haunted as well.
  20. 6 Houston Center does not appear as a listing here: http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?cityID=2...mp;statusID=1,2 Didn't they have a ribbon cutting or something a few weeks back. Who enters that information on that site?
  21. Builder's Square was/is owned by K-Mart. It and Home Depot are not related.
  22. That's freaky. It makes me want to see the inside.
