Houston Chronicle Building At 801 Texas Ave.
musicman replied to MidtownCoog's topic in Historic Houston
being cheap. supposedly some of the stone panels warped to the point of not being able to be used again nor easily replaced so it's not too obvious. (heard that from chron employee) i guess the aluminum was the easiest solution.- 77 replies

most colors can be altered to look "shocking". i don't know how they'll be able to say one color is worse than another. very subjective. now let me walk down my latin blue vestibulo to my latin green bano.

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART)
musicman replied to citykid09's topic in Dallas/Fort Worth/Metroplex
population is growing in many cities....yet congestion isn't growing as much because of different transit priorities which evidently are more effective. the TTI study factored population growth. because a small percentage of the population rides the rail, failure to expand the rest of the system results in more congestion. -

yep....but i would consider them more than a corridor. -
Yes, I was involved in an incident where 2 were arrested. that was in the 90's. unfortunately, the urban animals aren't the ones doing the damage...it is the younger adults that do it. it was because of these younger adults that skating was banned in some areas of downtown such as jones plaza.IMO the arrest wasn't necessary. guess they were a little too vocal for the officers

if THEY can afford it great. if they were in a facility where nothing has been done, i could understand. But money has been spent to hire acoustic architects for the renovation. Houston Symphony Society President Ed Wulfe noted,

many of the older ones only skate occasionally now but there still are several groups still in existence skating various nights of the week.

when an 80+ yr old man sings without amplification and you can hear him clearly.....doesn't sound dead to me. if someone can't find the restroom or climb stairs....i'll bet they must dread the task of finding their vehicle upon leaving. this reviewer sure likes it.

i disagree. in the 90's all accomodations were made ADA compliant. 1994 through 2000 saw improvements including a new orchestra shell, audio system, HVAC systems replacement among other incremental improvements. i'm not sure what a poor restroom facility is but seems no one had problems when i went to see tony bennett a month or so ago. The concert was great and during the concert tony commented on the acoustics. he loved them so much that he had them turn off the audio system and do a song without amplification.

lack of adequate infrastructure would most likely be enough.....and i agree with red that the traffic angle will be the one they pursue.

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART)
musicman replied to citykid09's topic in Dallas/Fort Worth/Metroplex
according to the texas transportation institute, from 1982 to 2005, Dallas' congestion seems to have grown. if the system was effective I would think the opposite would be occurring. their study says total delay growth in dallas is just under NY, LA and chicago for that 23 yr timeframe. TTI study -
definitely a plus for the buffalo bayou/sabine street area.

and/or sides. you have to allot space for easements. they can be used for safety purposes i.e. structures have to be so far apart otherwise fireproof materials should be used, so far from a road, etc. i don't believe setbacks are unique to houston.

occupancy has to do with a physical building. in that area, height restrictions would most likely be governed by deed restrictions (if they existed)

Clutterbuck said City Hall will have to find alternatives to zoning, which Houston voters have opposed. when the developers hear the word zoning...they'll be out in full force opposing it. implementing alternatives might have more of a chance of occurring.
