  1. is it official that dallas-ft. worth is now one city?
  2. which lot specifically? you should email a couple of councilmembers. they like to forward things like this directly to metro. i remember i recieved a letter from queen shirley dilibero herself!
  3. evidently the landlord for burger king downtown thinks differently since they just closed. none of these establishments are on my quality list of places to eat or frequent. i will admit i have been to one of these once this yr. these types of tenants wouldn't make downtown unique IMO. if you have the same chains like everywhere else then there's no reason to go. a unique downtown would give you a reason to go there.
  4. my neighbor has a new cement pond but their house is falling apart!
  5. yeah it should be like bellaire right?
  6. but he's the mayor of houston. not pasadena, deer park, etc. he didn't even approach the cities to make it a group effort. that is why they are irritated.
  7. for quality places to open (and remain open), you have to have customers who tip and treat the establishments well.
  8. luckily it was an empty lot all this time. but if there was a dilapidated shack there, it would be an improvement.
  9. harrisburg country club is another popular one...
  10. sounds like he's agreeing with the majority here. midtown isn't really optimal for raising families, it is for singles/couples without children.
  11. lets go talk to the kent, carolyn, mike, dan & jaime managers/owners of mkt square b&g, warrens, charbar, treebeards......i'm sure they'll say i support downtown. i usually only go off hrs (cept for treebeards) so i rarely have a difficult time parking anyway. i don't like going when the club kids are out. definitely ruins the atmosphere IMO. they will also tell you that many of the 20somethings patrons are cheap. it shocks me when someone gives good service, makes 5 or 6 drinks and gets a $2 tip. that is terrible but common. if you want nice places downtown you won't get (and keep) them if the customers don't have some respect too.
  12. yes talking about the same thing.
  13. yes but to be like the bellaire is not what midtown wants. your comparison was out there for me and probably anyone who's lived in houston for any substantial time.
  14. there's already an ongoing thread on this subj.
  15. i have one of those mcmansions across from me. it looks way out of place. that type of structure belongs in the burbs and on a larger lot.
  16. i'm not quite in agreement. midtown is probably too energetic for someone to raise children in. i think they do want the community atmosphere, but not necessarily one to raise children in.
  17. that's great. the stat concerning the golf courses surprises me. Public golf courses (within 30 miles) sugarland has 51 while the best places average is 74.
  18. the more money they take in this way, then the less they have to raise the tax rate. i think you can figure out who is benefitting.
  19. if nothing new is happening in bellaire, i personally wouldn't say they have real direction. your comparison of bellaire, galleria, downtown and midtown seems weak but i understand your intent. i do agree with your belief concerning too many bars and long term sustainabllity. as for apartment prices....i think they start at about 1000 for 1 bedroom, which isn't enough for a familiy. many crave an environment where residential and commercial are mixed. i understand but commercial needs more business than the residential can provide which means people must drive in from somewhere. which means parking must be provided. but the parking aspect is something the residents don't want. but this would conflict with the goals of the commercial establishments which is to gain customers.
  20. IMO their intent is to make more money Regardless of the opinions of the downtown merchants. it's like the red light cameras....a money making venture.
  21. they can be creative by designing a system that has minimal interference with vehicular traffic so they can decrease travels times which it term would increase ridership. but because of its design the average speed is about 17mph.
