    Ghetto

i use it in mixed company IF i know them all. they sure use it freely with me.
  6. the overhang portion ( what i'm calling the gallery) is raised so i now i doubt it will be part of the sidewalk. i could see some bistro type tables maybe.
  7. i think there's a back garage apt. this has been on the market several times and i guess price has driven people off.
  8. with the south facing view it has i doubt it.....it will be quite sunny. definitely no room for trees.
  9. they should have allowed room for a wider sidewalk or at least a little plant buffer. from your photo, i can't tell if the gallery portion will have seating or just be a sidewalk.
  10. so you're saying there are no working class families along MLK?
  11. isn't harrisburg "just old apts, little stores and just old nabe" too?
  12. I guess that western view is lacking? or maybe they'll put in windows later?
  13. i've wondered about the first building as well. it is classic art deco and would be a wonderful restoration project for someone. it's been in that state for quite a while now. i just hope it doesn't get dozed.
  14. LOL do you not realize the Pierce Elevated was built in the 1960's well after the area now known as midtown was developed? If midtown "grew" from Montrose, why do the street alignments, addresses in midtown, all coincide with Downtown, none of which match Montrose? i must say your premise is fallacious.
  15. Mister X continue.....you've sure have brightened my day. LOL
  16. i think the cherry demolition people take em for free. i think they are off the south loop though.

    Ghetto

you need to ghett out some more.
  18. for me it would depend on who the visitors are. i tend to hang out at the mom 'n pop places anyway. my parents like mia bella during a weekend day.....but sure don't during the evenings. most of my friends would have no problem, but I have some that you have to hold their hands cause they are just not familiar OR only go out uptown (cause downtown isn't to their standards).
  19. you must live in a rough part. i've made it to 40 yrs of age. no exaggerating.
  20. on friday, a homeless person called 911 on the pay phone by charbar. 5 police cars responded while she was still on the phone with the 911 operator. i was eating dinner at mkt square b&g (ran into sevfiv btw) and went out to see what the commotion was. i knew several of the people who were smoking outside. seems after 30 mins or so, none of the police officers wanted to put her in the car cause she smelled of urine so they let her go. the homeless are definitely still around trying to "help" you park.
  21. being is fine but my response is still
  22. midtown was ghetto before...i don't think it went ghetto. someone sees dirt turned on one lot and all of a sudden midtown's revitalized.
  23. not sure what a lot being opened means...but i have seen dirt turned for the 20-plex they are building. i personally have seen more empty lots (and abandoned businesses) along main (in midtown) since the mid 90's. i can think of the HCC garage and CVS that have been built along the rail since the mid 90's. what new construction can you think of? the article was simply describing the flower owner's opinion. as usual we can all agree to disagree.
  24. Back in the day, 1989 and 1990, there were roughly a dozen bustling flower shops on Fannin, stretching north from Bissonnet to U.S. 59. Since then the number of shops has shrunk to five, and those are starting to look a little like spindly, untended plants themselves. Politicians, urban planners and real-estate experts say the land in Midtown has become so expensive that so-called "interim'' businesses such as flower shops, car washes and parking lots can't survive for long. The theory is landowners can't afford the rising property taxes; those with leases can't handle soaring rents. Another complication is MetroRail, which has stripped the shops of valuable parking and scared customers who are afraid to cross the tracks. Also, there's been a quantum leap in the number of flower outlets all over the city. Those who want posies need look no further than their neighborhood grocery or strip shopping center. full article
