  6. Very nice looking development and it would help give a little bit of variety of scale on the perimeter of the park. Definitely would fill in the gap between the old and new Parklane towers quite well, I think.
  7. May want to see this thread... http://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/30471-multi-family-high-rise-near-eldridge-i-10/
  8. This pretty much sums up my thoughts on the network. In theory, it sounds like a good idea, and the angle of having the O&O stations (like KTRK) contribute their own programming was promising. KTRK did as well with both Mirror/Mirror & Deals. I think the failing is that there already are countless shows and channels like this across the spectrum, both OTA and through pay services. They weren't doing much to differentiate themselves from the pack. Personally, it's been interesting to see where that network has landed outside of a few major markets, and how the standard def feed is used more often than not. Where I currently live it's exiled to a subchannel of a low-powered station that covers only part of the city proper. The prospect of a local programming and/or weather sub-channel sounds like pretty close to what actually was there beforehand, IIRC, and a better use of the bandwidth. I think it was 13.2 that used to have the HS football games, station-produced documentaries and reruns of Debra Duncan's old show. You could pretty much set your watch by when they would run their special on Tropical Storm Allison at one point. Hopefully the new channels will be a bit more relevant than the current ones.

  10. It's a basically lateral move, but with a catch or two. Three of the "Big Four" english stations are owned by their respective networks in that market. It could, in fact, be a stepping stone to a higher level position a bit quicker as a result. The exception to the rule was WFAA, which was the flagship station of it's station group (Belo), but it's position will likely change as a result of the acquisition by Gannett. This might also be why there is some percieved extra "flash" in the presentation, but really, I don't think it's all that discernible. The industry is fairly incestuous, so the sets, music, graphics, etc... are going to resemble one another for the most part, with a tweak or two to "individualize" or "localize" for any particular market. What's interesting is that the reverse is generally true on the spanish language side in Houston anyway. The primary evening anchors on both KXLN and KTMD made it to the network level, but are now heading the local news. KXLN has Raul Peimbert, who has a farily impressive professional pedigree and most recent stint was in Los Angeles. KTMD has Martin Berlanga, who actually started at 45, then became a reporter and anchor for Univision's national weekend newscasts before returning to Telemundo in Houston. There are cases of this happening on the english side (see Sylvan Rodriguez, Gina Gaston) but I'm thinking not as often.
  11. I'm sorry if I came late to this topic, but I think I *may* have something that fits what you were looking for... I'm just not sure if it's with me (in Kansas) or down there where a bunch of my other tapes are, in storage. It was a 1982 weekend newscast where Mr. Harrison was filling in as the weatherman. I had never seen him until that clip but he was always one of my favorite voices growing up, before I was even aware I had an interest in television and radio for a profession. I'll try and keep an eye out for that specific tape. How is he doing, by the way?
  12. Was surprised there was a thread for this development already. At any rate a 6-story office building will be coming to the site, slated for completion late next year. http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/blog/breaking-ground/2014/05/new-mid-rise-building-breaks-ground-near-grand.html
  13. The Aldi store in Rosenberg, across from Brazos Town Center, opened last Thursday. That same day, they held the groundbreaking for the regional distribution center on the west side of Rosenberg. http://www.yourhoustonnews.com/sugar_land/news/aldi-breaks-ground-on-rosenberg-distribution-center/article_e1dac984-0392-59a6-bb38-5dd113ebdb4c.html
  14. Saw this one from the freeway, but didn't get to stop anywhere in the Energy Corridor during my last visit. Looked relatively substantial, maybe 6-7 stories at this point and still adding floors. Anyone know any more about this newer building under construction?
  15. Photos from Sunday... pretty visible foundation work taking place concurrently w/ demolition
