  1. Just tried copy & pasting the title... and it actually worked this time. It didn't when I tried it on Saturday.
  2. In somewhat recent developments, it seems like they're trying to advance the cultural arts district branding. The cultural district designation was formally approved by the Texas Commission on the Arts last month. A new website has been launched: http://artsinrosenberg.org/index.html They've also held an open house for merchants in the downtown district in the past couple of weeks to help show off the businesses and events that are taking place there. Based on the calendar on the site, it seems like there's more happening as of late than there has been in quite a while. Nice to see Vogelsang - er - Downtown Park also getting some more frequent use as well.
  3. Per Bisnow, this memorial was recently dedicated in Memorial Park in Sugar Land. Haven't heard of using tilt-wall for this sort of construction before. More on the design and planning can be found here.
  4. Yes, that was the original 37 story tower proposed by Hanover. Although it was shelved a few years back, it showed up on the plans again starting a year ago, maybe?
  5. I saw this project only placed on a .pdf map put out by the City Development Corporation earlier in the year. Didn't realize it was actually materializing. C/O Bisnow...
  6. The Chronicle's David Kaplan offers a bit more insight into the project and it's developers, as well as their additional plans for the area. http://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/article/Mid-Main-project-will-ride-with-the-millennials-4851864.php?cmpid=btfpm#/3
  7. I think something that the 40ksf figure may also come from something not mentioned here yet. In the renderings, there appears to be a multi-story expansion atop both the original Texaco Building and it's annex. That appears in the HBJ article. Seems like a development of sorts from the earlier renderings from the architect. Original HBJ
  8. I can't vouch for the one down around NASA, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the one in Missouri City may have been on Cartwright & Texas Parkway - where Foodarama is today. I'm only guessing that since I seem to recall it was an AppleTree at one point. Could be off though.
  9. I added the building to the database a few months ago when that was the initial floor count reported... Just haven't updated it.
  10. An expansion of the base/lobby area? All I'd seen before was just regarding the current tower, but maybe there are plans to modernize the entry area that haven't been mentioned yet.
  11. I vaguely recall the Days Inn sunburst logo sign being turned white with the words "Heaven on Earth" rounding the curve and "Inn" at the bottom. Not sure when that finally disappeared though.
  12. Yep, there was a thread - an interesting one at that - on this. http://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/26044-new-mfah-museum-architect-selected/
  13. Not really surprised - the original plan for The Spires called for two identical residential towers. The bust in the 80s killed that version of the proposal though. Looking forward to seeing more about the plans for this site.
  14. Saw this in a KHOU story on shoplifting in Rosenberg... wondering what metric was used to come to this conclusion. GSF? Acreage?
  15. Heh, I saw that too... Then I realized it was the bell tower from St. Anne's which is actually across the street from the project. Bonus points for accuracy on that one.
  16. I'd been curious about this one for some time. I'd only seen it proposed at 55 stories / 765 feet based on some of the period reports from the Houston Post. Was supposed to have been a project put forward by Urban Investment & Development and Treptow / Murphree (developers of The Huntingdon and a few other buildings). Only appeared to be viable for about a year or so before the bust based on that info. Not bad in terms of height, but I'm not the biggest fan of the design.
  17. It's funny you posted that clip. KRIV actually ended up getting that set in the mid 90's, when WNYW got a new one. It was the last set they used while they were at the old studios on Westheimer (now the Central Market). They used the same graphics for the open around the same time too. I have a few items posted on my YouTube account from the station from 1989 - the tail end of the period you're looking for.
  18. You're right. I tried plugging in a building for that section of land between 500' - 550' feet, and even then, it doesn't stand out unless you're looking at it from the Southwest (specifically the 'Midtown view, and even then you have to know where to look) or the east, (Dynamo / Minute Maid), North (UH/D) Northeast (Eastex Freeway). Those latter three shots would give you the best shot of seeing it in the skyline. Fans of BG Group Place from that last angle might not be too happy though, since at that height and perspective it starts to block out the tower to an extent.
  19. I originally posted a "What-if" version of the skyline featuring the 609 Main tower in that thread, but have been adding to the original model I saved in Sketchup. These screen shots include 609 Main, Chevron, Skyhouse, International Tower, Capitol Tower, Marriott Marquis, Five Allen Center and the pair of new hotels planned for the Convention Center area. The proportions are based on tips and information from the posts on this site. 20. I think this one was the initial version of the sleeker tower that Hanover proposed for the BLVD Place project. Not the one that's under construction but the one prior to it, pictured below. Thought it was cancelled or put on hold indefinitely. Then again the current BLVD Place plans and renderings show the above tower, with the same footprint still there along San Felipe at Post Oak Lane, so who really knows.
