  1. Sounds like this one will be moving ahead later in the year... http://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/real-estate/article/A-boom-in-senior-living-takes-shape-in-Houston-4548012.php
  2. Thought this was interesting news from the construction site, per bisnow...
  3. Since I'm not in the area, I can only check in on this one with the help of everyone here and through the SkyHouse webcam. I've noticed they're building a small wooden access way up and near the eastern corner that's rising by the day. I'm guessing it's just for the stuff they're cleaning out floor by floor at this point, especially since one of the levels is connected to a chute that goes to the dumpsters, but it also looks like an access way for construction elevators that I've seen at other projects. Just wondering if it looked that large in person since you can only gauge so much from a webcam!
  4. The old steam engine near the site will now be part of the museum... http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/morning_call/2013/05/antique-train-donated-to-houston.html
  5. New leasing info shows a few changes to proposed tenants. For phase 1 - more spaces for restaurants have emerged around the movie theater, as has a new 2-story medical office building. Only new proposed tenants I can make out are a Cavender's Boot City just northeast of the theater and a James Coney Island for a pad site in front of the theater's lot on Vista Drive. As for Phase 2 - the Raising Cane's & Children's Learning Adventure proposals have been removed. The ER clinic proposed for the space between Olive Garden & Cracker Barrel has reverted back to retail with an opportunity for a second restaurant.
  6. The camera is now up and running. Looks like it's been placed at 1301 Fannin, looking to the southwest
  7. Have only seen a few brief pieces on potential redevelopment of this site at the Katy Freeway and the Beltway, however this is the first I've been able to find on something concrete. Per bisnow... http://www.bisnow.com/commercial-real-estate/houston/bisnow-exclusive-sneak-peek-at-block-10-west/ It deals with the conversion of the former Great Indoors store into office space, with plans to add a new 15 story building. PDF of current plans from Hicks. This version says the office building will be 12 stories though. http://www.hicksventures.com/assets/pdf/Block10Max.pdf
  8. While the webcam isn't up and running yet, the Houston project has been added to the webcam page for each of the SkyHouse buildings under construction. http://oxblue.com/open/SkyHouseApartments

  10. So I was bored and decided to play with Google Earth + Sketchup to at least attempt to get a feel for how a building of this size and shape would interact with the skyline. I played with the top peak of the roof, and saw that either way - if it's 650 - 700 feet, it'll show up better from some views than others. I also tried to match it up with some of the early renderings out there for perspective... -From Around UHD -Dynamo Stadium -Minute Maid Park -Eleanor Tinsley Park (just behind Pennzoil Place) -Midtown, at the Superblock (That small fin just above BG Group Place) -45 N @ Quitman, minus the newer flyover, or the "other" traditional skyline view
  11. The base is pretty interesting. It looks like a smaller or even slightly inverted version of the original glass base extending from the lower floors of the CenterPoint Energy Tower. As for the view, it appears to be from the perspective of the Chase Tower's garage along Main (which apparently doesn't even exist in that rendering). Both the Rice Hotel & The Binz would be on the left with the Magnolia Hotel in the background. Does look like that squares away the previous questions about the Texas Tower's fate since it's absent from the rendering... then again, it's all hypothetical at this point. Also, may want to merge with the existing thread on this block and previously mysterious Hines Tower... http://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/15916-another-hines-dt-project
  12. May want to merge with existing thread... http://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/27597-grand-texas-theme-park/
  13. It's a bit off topic from the new development, but this does involve the Cole Theater so I figured I'd post it in this thread to see if I could get any bites. I've been trying to find a commercial that Randalls did when they started their "R-Cola" line of sodas. I'm thinking it was somewhere around 1994 or 95? It actually involved the "R" logo appearing on the back of the then yellow-ish wall of the building. It was there for years and began to fade away until the wall was repainted and it's traces were covered in the not too distant past. I also know there was an article about the events in the Herald-Coaster at the time. I've checked my old tapes and so far, haven't found it. Will keep looking though...
  14. Yeah, not too surprised at the one in the shopping center on Avenue H closing. That whole center has been going downhill over the past decade, even before Brazos Town Center opened. That center is probably worth it's own thread though.Or not... Good to hear about the new one though. Even though it was only built in the mid-90's, it was definitely in need of a refresh. Saw the Wendy's when I was back there a couple of months back... still hard to believe I actually went inside back when it was still a starbucks. Still seems a little surreal in a way. Was impressed that the Whataburger nearby is a stand-alone now... it's definitely a faster experience than when it was in the gas station.
  15. Based on the most recent post in the Central Houston Development map thread, it may be worth noting the part that ties specifically to this proposal - it seems larger than the rendering we've all seen. About this block, on page 11 the linked report specifically says...
  16. Would've posted this sooner, but the email addy I recieve these blasts from the developer is effectively my junk one now. Used to be my primary ages ago, but we all change... Anyway, this was recieved 2/8. And the renderings... Actually included a couple of pics of the McDonald's demo as well...
  17. I don't know the person who is posting, personally... but I do know who they are. That said, I'm intrigued and very hopeful for the future. Previous information they provided on MainPlace through the development/construction phase was spot on.
  18. Someone might want to merge with an earlier, slightly longer thread on the same topic... http://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/26334-20-story-office-tower-planned-for-energy-corridor-i-10-and-north-eldridge-pkwy
  19. Apparently work inside was finished in September, and it looks like they'll be having an open house in May... http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/blog/breaking-ground/2013/02/historic-500-fannin-gets-a-facelift.html Several before/after photos are included in the post.
  20. Was surprised when I went by here on my last visit back, a few weeks ago. The old Hollywood video which had been abandoned for a while has been turned into a Safelite Auto Glass location while a new RaceWay gas station was being built catty-corner to the Just Brakes. Slowly, but surely it seems to be recovering... Even saw the old Citgo/Burger King is being renovated nearby - one of three gas stations near a corner, if you count the RaceWay.

  22. Sounds like groundbreaking took place... Also a couple of new renderings. http://blog.chron.com/primeproperty/2013/01/trammell-crow-breaks-ground-on-energy-corridor-tower
