  1. Monorail isn't that crazy of an idea, though I'm not for it. During a number of the rail battles from the 70's onward, it's always managed to come up. Part of 2 Houston Center was actually designed to have a "People-Mover" type service move between the building and parking areas and buildings alongside 59. The bracing for where it was supposed to run is still visible in the building's extension over Fannin. As for Tom DeLay's contact info... Contact Info
  2. I have to agree to a certain extent. It may be functional and simple, and even visually appealing in a way. On the whole, it's pretty boring though... As for the Murrah Building in Oklahoma City, it looked to be the least "Federal" looking of any of the Federal buildings out there. It had a decent sized plaza, tons of windows, and seemed more accessible than others. The transformation into the memorial grounds is remarkable though, and the plaza still looks well preserved. It's good to see that it's replacement is still different. It's sheathed in glass, still has a plaza, and from the few looks I've had at it- it seems to look similar to the bank being built along Allen Parkway, at the very least with the colors of building materials if not in design.
  3. A dozen sounds right... What's with the spread along Harvey Road, around the new street around the First American site?
  4. Yeah, I remember writing the sourcing for some of the emporis material quoted. I think I finally added ChevronTexaco Heritage Plaza (for the year or two it was named that). They finally removed the massive granite Texaco logo from the Smith Street entrance once they moved. I still think it's odd that it's connected to the Doubletree opposed to the parking garage across from it. Though, I'm sure everyone remembers how prominent the building's presence was during the Rendez-vous Houston concert, before it's completion. Not that many buildings have a 22 story screen constructed onto the framework during construction, just to make a concert better.
  5. I'm curious as to what everyone thinks of it. It was the last big project of note during the 80's, and it's been through several name changes throughout it's tenure. It just seems so odd that it isn't connected to the tunnels (The food court below doesn't count), and that they're only now establishing retail above ground...
  6. I can dig up some captures from some footage I still have from the Hurricane... I don't recall it did that much to Wells Fargo, though the Hyatt and 1100 Louisiana got it bad on portions.
  7. Does anyone even use the Varisco building outside of the ground floor?
  8. The First American Project seems impressive from what I've seen. Then again, there's an arseload of land way out on East University left to develop. Isn't there a subdivision in the vicinty that's being planned?
  9. I've heard of a proposal that would develop the area surrounding Flour Daniel (Lakeside/Flour Daniel Dr.) and transform it into a retail/housing hub capped off with a Condo Complex consisting of up to 4, 10-Story condominiums. Hermes Architects is slated to do much of the development, but I've heard of some fuss from the homeowner's association ("Old Sugar Land", if you will) that might nix it before it gets off the ground.
  10. High School Sports Live! is one of their big local shows. They travel all over to shoot and bring in a team of the week to their studios. I actually got an email from Craig Roberts (during his short-lived stint as a broker) informing me of the show during it's early stages. Not bad, but it's not like the old school Sports Sunday (Chalkboard and all). Wild About Houston is one of the few surviving shows of the 2000 blitz of local programs they tried to introduce to get a following. It's still on for some reason.
  11. I think it's a shame they axed both News 24 Houston and News 9 San Antonio on the same day. News 8 Austin's been around since '99 or so, and I hear they have a decent viewership for a local cable organization. I don't think a year and a half is long enough to establish a viewer base. Though the guy that started 24 hasn't ever been successful in Houston. His attempts at both 39 and 51 failed, both seemingly ahead of their time.
  12. Actually, most of the stations owned by FOX have their own website. Since KRIV was one of the original FOX affiliates from back in '86, you'd think they'd automatically get one... Since KRIV & KTXH are both owned by FOX- you'd think they'd get a decent site at the same time. Too bad the placeholder site has been up since '01. Really would've expected something by now.
  13. The footage of the TV Station in the opening credits is KPRC, though the signage is covered by the fictional station's calls.
  14. Oh, someone else actually caught "Confessions"... And this is where the TV Nerd shows up to provide info. The first few weeks KTRK rebroadcast it, It still had the old, early 90's graphics on it and everything (including ch. 39's logo, branded as "39 HTV"). It's been replaced with a generic address graphic. Some of the clips show cameras with one of the old KPRC logos on them, so I don't know what that's about. The shows in their entirety actually had a point, this infomercial is just to pimp out the production company. As for decent shows... -Good Morning Houston. That was on forever, and it was the #1 rated local talk show in the country from 1985-91. It also got 40% of all viewers in the area during the 9AM hour at the height of it's run. -59 South. This was in the day before AM News started at 5AM and stations may actually sign off at times! Community service show wedged in at 5:30 AM on Ch. 2, before NBC News/Local News -Debra Duncan *Almost* ended up being syndicated. The first season's rating's weren't high enough for that to happen though... *End of Geekiness*
