Pumapayam
See my other posts about our country going down the drain.Back on topic... I havent set foot at this place in years... too much crime and seedy types.Yeah, you must be mistaking this for Sharpstown Mall.I don't see the riff raff you speak of, just a bunch of wannabe gansta kids, but it's all cosmetic, nothing to fear.

CHiPs
Does magic Johnson still on the Marq-e? Why didn't he turn the theature into one of his own?Is this place still open?Isn't the Marq-e going through renovation? I thought I saw asign it was be completed by Dec 2009...Maybe Mr. Johnson can bring some "magic" to that place...the construction really put a damper on business and didn't make it any easier to get to. That place is looking more and more like a ghost town each year.
infinite_jim
Sounds like the site is reverting to it's pre-development identity of "brownfield."
crunchtastic
Sounds like the site is reverting to it's pre-development identity of "brownfield."Brownfield site? Now that I think of it, that was the site of the old Cameron Ironworks.
citykid09
Who was the initial target market for this development? I have never been, but I remember a skate park there. It kind of looks like a Las Vegas style development, if gambling is ever allowed in Texas, that would be a good spot for a concentration of casinos.
lockmat
I don't read anywhere on here if the renovations ever actually happened. But I have found this...They're doing south parking lot renovations, which includes demolition of some of the existing structures. I wonder if this is the same thing?http://www.dyad-inc.com/images/bidding/MarqESo/MarqESo_Specs/Div_02.pdf

tenpin
I noticed yesterday that they were tearing down some of this complex. This morning driving by about a third of it was turned to rubble. Anyone know what's going on?
JJxvi
The jist, basically is that they have realized that the entire original concept of the center doesn't work and they are renovating the space into a more conventional retail center rather than the outdoor mall or whatever it was before. I think when its complete they will replace most of the demolished space with about the same amount of new space on different parts of the property. Geoff8201
Basically they're making it into a giant strip center instead of the outdoor mall layout like before. There was another thread about plans to do this somewhere...

Golyadkin
Well the problem is that they have a large chunk of vacant space there. What my understanding of the project is is that they will demo some of the shops in the front, opening up the whole layout, and move all of those front shops into vacant space in the rear, which will greatly increase the total percentage of their space that is leased. No one goes there anymore, and store keep leaving. I've said for several years that the place is dying. Hopefully this can turn it around. Now all they need to do is get rid of LA Fitness and put the skate park back and the place will be full of people again... Plenty of people go there for all the main stuff (the club, restaurants, movie theater, D&, but that's mainly on nights and weekends. Having retail stores there was a bad idea from the start. I think the developers finally realized this, so they decided on this renovation to remove unused space and to open up the place a bit. It's not only weekends when its packed...I've even noticed how busy it was on a typical tuesday! Not sure about monday or sunday's, though. Been in Todai a few times and it has been hit or miss on it being busy or I just go in on weird hours between the rushes.
Trae
How full is that parking garage on the weekends? I remember when it first opened, it could get pretty full, but at that time the retail was thriving and Vans was also there.
Golyadkin
I've never seen it get to the point where it was difficult to find parking on the second level. Even on a Saturday night I've never needed to go up to the third level to park.
Golyadkin
Well, it's done. Went by about an hour ago and took pictures: Judging by the map, I don't think their claims of "94% occupancy" are quite accurate...

Golyadkin
It changed the whole feel of the place. It's a lot brighter and more open. It's a definite improvement. Now to see if people start coming back. There isn't really a lot there. All of the smaller spaces are empty and it makes it seem abandoned or something. Didn't feel right. And I saw an A&W restaurant there that looked fully furnished and closed up for the night, with "For Lease" signs on the windows. So that was a little disappointing.(Spot 18 on the map).
crunchtastic
Pump It Up would be much cooler if it were adults-only, less brightly lit and had a liquor license.

sevfiv
It's definitely brighter but still had a stagnant feel - but that could be because I was there right on the tail end of them finishing and it was a Wednesday afternoon..
Guest ctaf
The map says there is a Chick-fil-A (#28) there, but is there actually one, or is it a coming soon type thing? I don't remember seeing a building for a chick-fil-a
