Montrose1100
It's a cool feeling seeing this interaction with the street. It goes against everything in the original vision. The contrast in glass is kind of ugly, but I guess I'll reserve judgements until it's complete with some greenery.

The change has been much...more than I would have thought after seeing the original outline a year ago. If they basically just remove SOME of the brick from the Shops, downtown will have gotten such a facelift. And walking into the shops will no longer feel like going into a bunker.

I think the contrast is pretty neat, from a historical perspective. I'm going to enjoy pointing out to people why there's such a stark break between the old building and the new renovations, and the 180 planning philosophy has made since the Houston Center was built.

I believe there are plans for updates to the facade of the shops, correct? or am I mistaken?

monarch
^^^ HOUSTON CENTER is fast becoming a new MASTERPIECE right before our very eyes. the "dusk" illustrations featuring the blue lighting design are simply gorgeous. what a way to enliven and brighten up this particular downtown district...

Yeah, the face of the building will have the bricks removed in sections and replace by giant windows/glass, supposed to be done by end of 2021, if the plans are still intact and proceeding as planned.

I had to do a double-take.

monarch
^^^ so posh, so sophisticated, so glamorous. it just seems as though it should be a part of an INTERIOR design, as opposed to an EXTERIOR design. simply gorgeous, and it's not even completed yet... Looking forward to this as opening up the Park Shops outward to McKinney might attract more people inside and is close enough to to Discovery Green to potentially attract some of its crowd.

I've been waiting for them to start for years, and then they finally start the redevelopment and still haven't touched The Shops.
