Marriott Marquis: GRB Convention Center Hotel At 1777 Walker St.

Love the shape of Texas. Not to start fights , but glad Texas didn't keep the 1845 boundaries. Would have been tough to make the lazy river. Can't imagine a lazy river using Maryland, West Virginia or Idaho either.- 2,096 replies

Just be careful parking on Polk near Caroline. Several of us got bagged over the Christmas holiday. No one noticed some obscure sign (among many) regarding no parking due to a non- metro bus stop. In addition there are marking on the street outlining car parking. Back to topic, many of the streets which used to have large gaps from surface lots have buildings or construction. For example Main, Austin, and Capitol streets. Louisiana and Milam seem to feel the most like an urban canyon. Visually pleasant.

Anyone who hasn't driven through downtown Houston in the last four years will be in for a shock. The place has and is certainly densifying with all the new construction.

The 609 Main cam seems to be in a time warp. Do you suppose that fellow in the camera is The Master from Dr. Who? He has a vague resemblance.

Good point subdude. Cities with multiple construction cranes exude a certain vibrancy. -

I don't like communists either especially after what they did to my family, but let us hope we let this one pass. Let the Chicoms ( or anyone else) hold the title of longest ring road. Just glad were are building the GP.
-
If that is built it will out distance the new Moscow ring road by about 400 km. Ours is somewhere in the area of 300 km. Hope we don't get into a ring road contest.

Anyone know what is happening with this old boy? The webcam suggests something is afoot.

A Tea time question for the transportation Haifers. Once segment G is complete this spring the Grand Parkway will be in excess of 85 miles which makes it longer than Beltway 8 and I -275 ring. The Grand Parkway of course is not a ring but more like a giagantic "C". Is it considered the longest "ring road" in the U.S or not?

Take this information with a healthy dose of skepticism. Looking at raw numbers from Emporis regarding "exisiting buildings" , Houston surprisingly ranks as #2 ahead of Chicago ( 3335 vs 3056), but way behind NYC. I do not know how many fall into the technical definition of a high rise which has something to do with fire codes.

The folks complaining about this highrise are wasting their time. That is one choice intersection. If a developer wishes to make a ton of money that certainly is a good plot of land. Why wouldn't they build? I just hope Trammel Crow which also have another great plot of land, block 98 downtown, also develop theirs. These sites seem win-win.- 1,032 replies
