  1. I recognize them. They are the Sutekh's mummies the 4th Doctor battled in the Pyramid of Mars. But I thought they were dead, I mean really really dead.
  2. I remember when this Helmut Jahn building was proposed. It was during the time period construction of the two supertalls plus several others. The effect was electrifying.
  3. Is this the old "Love Street" music place? Went there on my first visit to Houston. Vaguely remember it.
  4. I completely agree with Bobruss. Very well stated. Nevertheless one can have an impressive skyline and a walkable city e.g New York, Chicago, Boston. Houston has over-emphasized skyline and greatly under-emphasized charm and walkability. I remember returning one time from Montreal with its charming old city and parks along the St. Lawrence and my wife and I groaning about Houston. I am expecting (perhaps foolishly) that all the new apartments and condos will attract charming urban amenities seen in many cities. I hope I hope I hope.
  5. This should be approximately the height of the Catalyst downtown. With the Carter and with other highrises in the village and museum district (including the toothy Ashby highrise) it certainly is going to begin a continuity of skyline from downtown to midtown/museum district/medical center
  6. I agree. Great photo of our beautiful downtown. The 609 is turning out better than I imagined.Too bad the parking lot north of the old Chronicle building can't be made a park and the old chronicle site a high rise residential. Nevertheless things are moving nicely. Have my fingers crossed on the 40 story residential near the Hess building.
  7. My daughters and I had the same impression. Saw all the new high rises and we were very impressed. Downtown is densifying. The 609 especially dominates.
  8. I'm not upset at all. Go watch the opening of the movie Urban Cowboy and compare it to the skyhawk video. The downtown was a mass of tall buildings all cluster west of Main giving it a lopsided appearance. In addition midtown was a wasteland all the way to the museums.
  9. Is this the same site as the April 24th posting?
  10. I don't hate the western view, I think it is overdone. I don't think there is a bad view of downtown Houston, it's just that some are great and some are less great.
  11. The view from Market Square park is going to be delightful in a few years. In addition to the two beauties going up there are already several apt/lofts in the area.
  12. Thanks, I think I see it in the rendering. It is the pale high rise to the southeast.
  13. Segment H and I-1 as well as segment C are due for construction in late 2016 or 2017
  14. Got on the Grand Parkway at I-69, zoomed to 290 to Hockley and back. A dream drive. Beautiful trees along much of the route.
  15. I checked the numbers on the census.gov for MSA. It lists Houston MSA 2015 as 6,656,947 and Houston MSA 2014 as 6,490,180. This comes out as 166,767. What ever number 159 K or 166 K they are huge numbers. Do not know if this is the largest ever. I know Chicago grew very fast in the 19th century and LA in the 20th but don't know the numbers.
  16. A bit off topic, but related to development. . Depending on your point of view good news or bad. New census estimates claim the Houston MSA grew by approximately 163,000 from 2014 to 1015. The largest increase in the country once again. Second year in a row growth has been greater than 150K. Population must be over 6.7 million at this point. Amazing numbers.
