Catalyst: Multifamily High-Rise At 1475 Texas Ave.

With anywhere between 1040 to 1350 units opening ( assuming block 98 goes up) in the next few years there going to be many folks in need of a grocery store, pharmacy etc. Either that or there are going to be many irritated and unhappy people in the area.- 911 replies

I agree that against criminals, defensive measures are insufficient and that consistent rigorous actions must be applied , but nevertheless here in the States we make it too easy to rob banks. I am not blaming the banks or the business owners for the criminal activity of others. But when vicious wolves are freely roaming you better have both a gun and the windows shut.

Perhaps designing banks and stores of this nature using the European bank model may help. Every bank I have entered in Europe requires two entry points. One would think this would inhibit this activity.

If this information regarding the Skyhouses is accurate it should spur further residential downtown construction. Not being a business man I cannot claim detailed understanding. Nevertheless it makes no sense for developers who received financial incentives to build downtown residentials especially in choice locations or near the rail line, or both, to let this opportunity slip away. Camden, block 98, Fairfield seem like win proposals.

Thank you for the numbers. You are correct it is confusing. If I understand this, the museum is expanding in excess of 200,000 sq. ft some will be exhibition space most will be other uses.

Holiday/Days/Heaven On Earth Inn At 801 St. Joseph Pkwy.

The wind blew up or a bird pooped the tree seed up there. Life is tenacious. -
p.s The Glasell 80,000 sq ft building should probably not be included in my previous estimates, nevertheless the additional 164,000 sq ft expansion will place the MFAH in the big leagues in term of size.

I do not claim scientific accuracy in these numbers. The MFAH buildings Law and Beck have a reported square footage of 130,000. The expansion is adding over 240,000 square feet. If these numbers are accurate the MFAH will be larger than the Art Institute of Chicago, which I believe is the 2nd largest in the US. . Of course it is the collection and staff which determine quality, but still that is one big expansion.

Anyone know how much exhibit space after the expansion and how this will compare to the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Gallery, or the Boston MFA? It seems as if the MFAH is doubling in size after all is finished.

Hope they come to fruition. Would add to downtown residential density. Block 98 and the other north of the ballpark will add to the eastern skyline. Block 98 and the Fairfield are on the rail line. One would think this is an added inducement to build. One would think.

That is right next to the new apartment tower. Seems as if they will interfere with each others views. I guess they can wave out the windows to each other.
