  1. Just because a few office towers Downtown (International), might now get off the ground doesn't mean the demand isn't there for space elsewhere.
  2. If it went Down Memorial it could be the Median until the park, and sink underground after Shepherd and re-emerge IN the park, instead of ON Memorial, cut under 610, and make it's way to Post Oak.
  3. So basically the same amenities as every apartment complex built in the loop since 2006? The few amenities the residents will use are nice, but you're basically paying more per month for all these wonderful things you'll probably never use, as well as the trainer in the gym, the Yoga/Pilates instructor, the holiday parties including the liquor reps, the chef to teach cooking courses, the wine sellers to have tasting parties. All while you're at work or coming home from a long day.
  4. Are they going to get out of the 900-footer they built a few years ago? Edit: Guess so. I'm not a huge fan of the design, and Norman Foster is about 10 years past his prime. It sort of fits their skyline but I usually don't get in a jealous rage when the only way they can beat us by Height is from a Spire. As far as I'm concerned the the US Bank Building in Los Angeles is the only one that has us beat outside of NYC & Chicago.
  5. The only ones I feel bad for would be the Firefighters. There are Panhandlers on Broadway @ 610 & Wallisville @ East Beltway that will seriously knock on your window if you ignore them. And some of them are for Churches! Well, at least they pretend to be. Edit: So I'm assuming this won't include Salvation Army & Girl Scouts on Private Strip Center property right? Damn...
  6. First the Roxy, Then Hush, and now Drink Houston. I can't imagine how Richmond looked back in the day, it looks to be an empty shell of it's former self. Even the Pappasitos is crappy.
  7. Ditto. Infill is infill though, it's nothing fabulous. But will have good views when 'Free Tibet' protesters march outside of the Chinese Consulate.
  8. Looking North on I-45 South I would assume. I don't think it's an exact picture but I can place every major skyscraper in the shot.
  9. I hope not! I sure do like Sunday Night Discoing Downtown. Although Kryptonite is kinda gross. 611 Played good music, but it reminds me of the pirate bar in Galveston, like a hoarder's wet dream. Junk and cheap stuff everywhere.
  10. I guess we won't know until something official is announced (or until swstig says so). It would be a huge shame, but I highly doubt Downtown will empty out of all our major Energy Companies. While a suburban campus is nice, why would Chevron, after buying all these towers & property Downtown, suddenly want to sell and evacuate to the far northern exurbs? And as per other reputable sources on this site saying that Chevron is looking for other space at Camp Strake (labs?). Of course every company will have many different offices around town. No major company will be 100% located in one single spot. Edit: It's the sum of all fears that Shell & Chevron abandon Downtown and leave us with a HUGE amount of space to be absorbed. Would probably take us a decade to come back from something like that. Conversion to condos? haha jk. Before the panic spreads why don't we wait for an announcement?
  11. It shouldn't be too expensive. at least once you get north of the Houston suburbs. South of Dallas isn't as issue as there is almost nothing until Downtown.
  12. I feel like every time this building is proposed it's at the tail end of our mini boom cycle. Or maybe it was only once before, but I could swear this thing has been cancelled twice.
  13. I'm actually a little happy it's not just a solid glass building. I think the different facades will blend in nicely with the palates of colors in the area. Also, not having as much ground floor retail might be beneficial to the retail spaces that already exist. Baby steps...
  14. I didn't like Jones Plaza even when I was a child and saw it on the Houston Chronicle. I'm looking forward to the renderings.
  15. I bet in our lifetime Post Oak Blvd. will become an Urban Canyon of high-rises and mixed-use development, both sides, from 610 to 59.
  16. Remember those maps that came out a few years ago saying Houston will be apart of two giant metros. The "Gulf" one went all the way to New Orleans, and of course the Texas Triangle. I don't think we'll see it in our life times but who knows. I think the development will be pushed out even further but look how expansive the LA Metro is. We will have these satellite cities that will continue to grow and be their own centers of entertainment, shopping, and employment (The Woodlands, Sugar Land). And they will eventually have "suburbs" of their own. Which they already kind of do. When I worked in the Woodlands more than 60% of my co-workers commuted from Conroe.
  17. Based on the rendering will there be apartments facing the street on the same levels as the garage?
  18. DZ Discovery Zone on FM 1960. It blew Chuck-E-Cheeses out of the water (I think it's a candle store now). Marco's on Kuykendahl in the strip center where Klein Bank was. Was my favorite tex-mex place as a kid. Also the tall hospital that use to be on Allen Parkway. I remember every time we would drive to see my dad we would pass it. I can also recall there being some kind of tall crops on FM 2920 @ Kuykendahl. Maybe corn? Oh and how could I forget Charlie's Hamburgers? Man those were SO GOOD. We use to eat there after seeing a movie at the theater which is now a fitness place on West Grey. Edit: Enron Field... I remember my first game there. I got some nachos and tripped down the stairs and got a 3rd degree burn on my arm. The scar is still visible under my left arm.
  19. I know Canary Wharf isn't the best examples of modern architecture in London, but I like them as a specific 90's time pieces (same with the Millennium Dome). Reminds me of my younger years. I remember London exploded with developement in the 90's and One Canada (at the time), was in at least one shot of every movie filmed in London. Mainly Spice World and Tomorrow Never Dies. I remember watching the fireworks on the 31st of 99' around the world and London seemed like the show case of the whole planet. Anyways sorry for the trip down memory lane. Thanks for the suggestion. A quick bing image search of Highgate Hill yielded some interesting places! Regent Canal looks quaint and almost too charming.
  20. The only reason I'll try Tex-Mex places or any disgusting chain (Friday's, Chillis), outside of the country is to see if they have Ranch Dressing. It has been a quest I've had since I was 12. Speaking of food I think that's why we try those places when in the UK due to the lack of taste in most dishes. It's not a stereotype if it's true. Usually when we visit Europe our family members over there take us to surrounding villages and note worthy places. However, after seeing every Roman Catholic Church west of the Rhine River we've grown a bit tired of the country side. It will be Strictly London & Cologne while we are there, as we didn't get as much time in the city centers as we'd like to have before. I truly appreciate all your suggestions. I'll definitely have to check out Foyles, Simpson's Tavern, Harrod's, and the Science Museum. Most of my interests include drinking, cocktails, and light beers (also Architecture of course). I bought that mega chip for my digital camera that holds like 7,000 pictures.
