  1. Yeah I was planning on seeing it at dusk. I'm sure it's as exciting as Piccadilly Circus in London but a much grander scale.
  2. How could I forget about the park? I would absolutely love to walk around it. Also I would like to go across the Brooklyn Bridge, so I could add those two to my touristy list. I was planning on taking a taxi everywhere... I'll be there for 5 nights, so a week long pass on the transit sounds good. I was thinking about seeing just one museum, would you recommend the Metropolitan over the Guggenheim? I heard the lines for the Statue of Liberty were outrageous even in the "off" season. Which is also why I don't want to go up the Empire State Building. Top of the Rock looks better because it has the ESB in view. I appreciate the show tips but to be honest I really don't want to see any play unless the Book of Mormon is playing. I've seen a few here in town and they are great and everything but it just doesn't appeal to me. One more question, do I need cash for the driver picking us up from LaGuardia? I booked a town car and it says they don't carry money for tolls. But the town cars here have ez-tags and include them in their pricing. I thought that was strange.
  3. Alrighty my fellow HAIFers, this September i'm heading to NYC. I've googled and binged places to see and do, but want to know any personal recommendations from people who have been there or lived there. First off, I'll be staying in Chelsea. The only touristy things I plan to do are go up to the observation deck in Rockefeller Plaza, see the new WTC, and that's about it. I also plan on heavy drinking and partying. Any great eateries or bars that are really worth a visit? Your help is much appreciated.
  4. The real question is how long has Exxon owned the land? I'm sure they were planning this far beyond our comprehension. The Grand Parkway was the final champagne bottle on the ass of moving forward. It's no secret that Exxon developed early neighborhoods in the Spring area when FM 1960 was a two-lane road with forest on both sides. Anyways, Baker Hughes is relocating as mentioned above, they don't really have a big chunk in America Tower. The Hardy Toll road is a quick and easy route to the airport, avoiding major traffic and the Woodlands is only a bonus.
  5. I really love the way it's lit up at night. BLVD Place is one of the very few contemporary pieces we have going up.
  6. Oil. Period. Sure you can cut it off from other "related jobs", but it all comes down to petroleum. Our exports are increasing (chemicals), and employment is growing in leaps and bounds. Imagine all the exxonmobile moving here with their families from Virginia. Now let's pretend that some rumors are true and XOM & Chevron move there HQ's here in the next 5 years... Other companies will follow the leaders. Our business friendly low tax attitude towards companies is just too appealing to stock holders who want every penny squeezed from all corners. I predict we will see companies not actually related to the energy industries come here in the next decade or so.
  7. Cosmopolitian/First National Bank (Los Angeles) hybrid? I like the top portion, and IMO perhaps stream line it into the garage?
  8. I am as quick to bash Dallas as the next person, but the above is a bit silly and kind of pointless. They have a slick modern W, and we can't even get one off the ground. That area of Dallas couldn't have been built at a worse time (ala Green Street), but with time it will become what it was planned for. Dallas has vision, and Dallas gets better architecture when it comes to residential and hotel towers. Austin really has the crown in that respect.
  9. Looks like a quick tower put up in Germany after the war. I kind of like it. Ditto on the non-beige.
  10. It's Skyhouses' older sibling. In stucco. It's not completely awful and a 40 story residential Downtown is great news. Maybe we'll get something taller, sleeker, and more appealing down the line. For now, that'll do pig... That'll do.
  11. I'm glad Houston missed out on this type of architecture. Looks like it belongs in the DFW area. Those hollow canopies are awful as well.
  12. It's a cute house but just because it was the first to be air-conned doesn't merit saving it.
  13. The Cologne Cathedral is probably one of the longest on-going construction projects in the world. Around the clock they are working on it. The Scaffolding on the North Tower has been there since the first time I saw it in 1996. London has some very interesting architecture. The Shard was recently completed and IMO it fits the city like a glove. The Half pill building is London's City Hall, designed by Foster & Partners.
  14. For a camera that has 16 megapixels i'm not thrilled at the picture quality. But, I guess for $99.00 on amazon I shouldn't complain.
  15. Here are a few shots from my trip. I took +700 photos so i'll narrow it to my favorites. Pt.1 Cologne
  16. I did enjoy my time there and it's a great city, but was utterly shell-shocked at the nightlife. I had built my hopes up thinking it would blow Houston clear out of the water.
  17. I was wondering what that giant disco ball was facing the square!
  18. Agreed, looks 100x better then the previous proposals.
