  1. They've started excavating for the pool. General Contractor said they are working on having this open by 4 July.
  2. You are correct. I was told that the city is not willing to support MRA on much other than sidewalk improvements because it is their opinion that the tax increment is technically their contribution... I can see how they would think a portion of that lost revenue is theirs (especially with the renewal of the TIRZ for another 10 years), but I think they are being a little short-sighted with how much an area can improve after an upgrade like was done on Bagby. The result of this project is going to be right in line with their Houston Tomorrow initiatives.
  3. Apparently this project was pared down are re-bid but still came in over budget. I think they're planning to put this (and other proposed projects) on the back burner until some of the current construction boom slows down a bit.
  4. I was super pumped about this project, but from the exterior it looks like they're renovating this as cheaply as possible. Sheets of concrete board are going over the existing latticed facade on the McIlhenny side. Hopefully they are going to open it up with windows on the Main St side, as shown in the renderings.
  5. Sorry, I should have clarified. Zoom in on the tallest parking structure in the world.
  6. Zoom in on the 6th railed tier from the top. I'm not sure about how the yellow Ferrari got up there, but... http://gigapan.com/gigapans/48492/
  7. I have no idea what you're looking at on which camera, but it sounds like you're referring to a cast-in-place form. They're installed to form the bottom of the pour and removed after a predetermined amount of curing time. EDIT: ^Yeah, what he said.
  8. More brick work was in progress when I walked by yesterday. They were also planting some trees on the front side.
  9. So I guess there's actually some legitimacy behind the previous argument (don't remember which thread) about how much say the FAA has in downtown construction.
  10. I couldn't have said it any better... unless I said eyesore.
  11. I walked by this morning and it looks like they have about 90% of the glass up and they're preparing to start work on the fire escape out back. I'm hoping they'll wrap up all of the exterior work in the next couple months so this upgraded structure will start to serve as a catalyst for the area.
  12. Good call. That would also explain the size of the hole.
  13. Yeah, that's what I thought too. But the hole is right across from the McGowen south-bound METRO rail stop. We can only hope that Camden realized how douche-y they were being and decided to switch back to the south side of the block.
  14. I'm surprised that no one has updated this yet... there is green fence screen all the way around and several excavators digging a BIG hole on the Camden end of the block.
  15. This is a great idea. Call Sheila Jackson Lee and tell her she will get lots of time on TV and she will champion this idea like it was her own.
  16. Tearing down the building would lower the valuation and thus their property taxes... but the demolition cost could easily be more than several years worth of net tax savings. Therefore, they're building soon or not for a looooong long time.
  17. They've installed brick on the lower level of the East and North sides. It's starting to look marvelous.
  18. Damn. So is this the second shooting in Midtown in the past week? I heard there was a fatal shooting outside of F Bar.
  19. This is exactly the scenario that was laid out at the Midtown Community Meeting. Howard seems to have information that says otherwise. With the rate at which things change, I'm deferring to his "insider information" as the current status quo.
  20. Per MRA, Camden will be managing construction of the parking garage...
  21. From what I've read about this, they're using a modular design that's the equivalent of creating a lego building (similar to tilt wall). I don't imagine they are including the fre-fab stage or foundation pour in the actual construction time. Supposedly this type of construction uses less material, is cheaper, and supposedly stronger than conventional construction. Perhaps they'll find the downside after the building is complete.
  22. They should have redesigned it into the Chinese version of a Skyhouse: http://sploid.gizmodo.com/china-builds-complete-57-story-lego-like-skyscraper-in-1690315984
