004n063
Not sure if there are any "Succession" fans here, but that there's a ludicrously capacious parking lot. Seriously, Greg. It's monstrous.
bookey23
Agreed, when they announced the Harlow District, I thought they were going to be dropping more buildings in between the two spaces. This is just ridiculous and hardly a "District"
gregpet
As someone that lives nearby. I still give them credit for cleaning up a lot of the blighted wood frame houses (see above) of underutilized old buildings. Even with the large amount of asphalt it is still a huge win for the neighborhood and area.

IntheKnowHouston
On 7/15/2022 at 8:12 AM, IntheKnowHouston said: The Kirby Group recently dropped a hint of what may become of the parcels at 2817 W Dallas St, 2701 W Dallas St, and 1011 La Rue... I do not know if the Kirby Group will keep Nino's open or not at 2817 West Dallas. However, an entity filing seems to hint Nino's could live on for a while longer under the group's management. On 8/12/2022 at 4:18 AM, IntheKnowHouston said: The Kirby Group recently applied for an alcohol permit for one of several new food & beverage concepts of theirs on the horizon. A TABC notice for Nino's appears to confirms the speculative post above. The notice seems to indicate Kirby Group will reopen Nino's at 2817 W Dallas St. Maybe in the coming months, we'll learn if the restaurant will continue to center on Italian cuisine Instead of Nino's, another familiar Italian restaurant is planned for Harlow District. La Griglia is relocating to the mixed-use development. It will occupy Nino's former space at 2817 W Dallas St / 2817 West Dallas St. The Landry-owned restaurant is in the River Oaks Shopping Center at 2002 W Gray St. But that location will close soon. As some may recall, Papercity mentioned the impending closure last year: On 8/17/2022 at 8:02 PM, IntheKnowHouston said: La Griglia restaurant in the River Oaks Shopping Center will close at year's end. From an article today in Papercity Magazine: "River Oaks Shopping Center is hopping with restaurant news not the least of which is that the much beloved La Griglia, part of the Landry’s empire, is losing its lease at the end of the year. We are told that Kimco Realty Corp., which bought the posh shopping center from Weingarten Realty Investors, may have either refused to renew the La Griglia lease or was contractually prohibited from a renewal perhaps due to a longstanding feud between Landry’s and Weingarten. There are several versions of this unconfirmed situation. Whatever the case is, La Griglia is leaving." https://www.papercitymag.com/restaurants/houston-restaurant-buzz-park-house-location-brasserie-19-patio-fight-ciel https://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/32925-the-driscoll-high-rise-river-oaks-shopping-center-developments/?do=findComment&comment=661387 As for La Griglia's soon-to-be-former unit at River Oaks Shopping Center, the space is leased to local restaurant group Goode Company: On 11/14/2022 at 2:40 AM, IntheKnowHouston said: Kimco Realty Corp has found a tenant for the River Oaks Shopping Center unit at 2002 W Gray St ( 2002 West Gray St ). La Griglia currently occupies the space. However, over the summer, Papercity reported the Landry-owned restaurant is closing its River Oaks outpost at the end of 2022. Taking over La Griglia's space is another Houston-based restaurant. Goode Company is bringing its Tex-Mex concept Kitchen & Cantina to the shopping center. I don't know when Goode Company leased the space, but it is shown in a recent River Oaks Shopping Center site plan dated in August. Goode Co. Kitchen & Cantina has three locations in the Houston area: The Woodlands, the Memorial area, and their most recent in the Heights. https://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/32925-the-driscoll-high-rise-river-oaks-shopping-center-developments/?do=findComment&comment=667131

It probably won't be enough parking. If parking is a concern for patrons, there are other transportation options. Houston METRO route 56 has stops at the intersection of Dallas St. and Montrose Blvd, a 2-3 minute walk. Routes 40 and 41 have bus stops one block away, less than a minute walk. Uber, Lyft, taxi services are other options. Hopefully bike parking will be installed in the future.
MrFubbles
This area is becoming pretty dense - hopefully the foot traffic can compensate for the lack of parking. If it doesn't now, maybe in the next 5ish years
hindesky
While taking pics at the Ismaili Center I heard about 8 Houston Fire Department trucks go by with sirens blaring. Shortly after they went by the sirens stopped so I flew around looking for smoke or an accident but saw nothing. Turns out there was a gas leak reported at the Harlow and they were there to stop it. 2 1

J Money
Does this mean that there's no immediate plan to redevelop that parking lot? I assumed they'd keep that lot separate if they planned to put an apartment complex or garage there.
