More about the restaurants to open this year!

Six New Restaurants to Open in Houston’s Montrose Collective in 2022

exciting stuff!

https://houston.eater.com/2022/1/26/22902565/new-houston-restaurants-montrose-collective

It's the same restaurants and information I listed above last week. I emailed Eater Houston and other news outlets with dedicated dining coverage about the newer additions (that weren't previously reported) last week after I posted the brochure in the forum. It's probably why Radom Capital issued a press release due to multiple inquiries from local publications.

I saw this a few days ago too. Unlike most of the food and beverage tenants so far at Montrose Collective, Graffiti ( 1001 California St, Suite B-101) is local. This is a new restaurant concept from Clark Cooper Concepts, I believe.

A restaurant named ,  Graffiti………hmmmmmmmmm

I was wondering if there was a connection to the Graffiti that used to be on Fairview and Taft?

On 1/20/2022 at 8:04 AM, IntheKnowHouston said:

No. The restaurant named Graffiti is not connected to the shuttered Montrose restaurant Gratifi (pronounced "gratify"). It's also not connected to the long gone Graffiti's on Union St from Piper Hospitality (off Washington Ave).

As I commented above, Graffiti, which is opening at Montrose Collective, is a new restaurant concept from Clark Cooper Concepts.

Here is more from Houston Chronicle on Graffiti, the new restaurant from Clark Cooper Concepts or related hospitality group Good Vibe Hospitality. This is opening at 1001 California St,  Suite B-101 within Montrose Collective.

From the article:

Another soon-to-be-announced Houston hospitality group will be heading Graffiti Raw, a restaurant inspired by the casual vibes of California's Venice Beach and the food culture of Tulum in Mexico — "the kind of place that's open for brunch and early lunch (where) you can show up in shorts, you can show up in jeans, and then in the evening it's a really fun spot," said Radom.

Expect a focus on raw dishes like ceviche as well as fire-grilled meats and seafood. Radom says the secret chef is "a very-well traveled guy."

Houston Chronicle has more details about Chelsea Oyster Bar than the article from Water Houston. Chelsea Oyster Bar will be located at 888 Westheimer (I don't know the suite number) in Montrose Collective.

Blurb from Houston Chronicle:

An oyster bar called Chelsea is also in the works by a Dallas-based group that has tapped a yet-to-be-disclosed Houston chef. The concept will have a large patio space shaded by live oak trees, and serve oysters, seafood and drink classics like martinis.

Houston Chronicle reported a few details about the TBA bottle shop coming to Montrose Collective, 888 Westheimer:

"Radom teased a new wine bar and bottle shop, run by the former manager of "a very well-known Montrose restaurant" who has worked in Houston for a long time. It will serve a concise food menu of sandwiches and salads."

I think the bottle shop and cafe coming to Montrose Collective at 888 Westheimer Rd is probably Flora's. The name may also be Flora"s Bottle Shop.

Flora's was planned for another location nearby in Montrose last year. However, going off Houston Chronicle's reporting, it seems the wine bar & cafe could be Flora's.

Last spring, Flora's created an Instagram for its business.

Personally,  I'd rather keep leaked info here for us to enjoy and allow the developers to release information to news outlets based on their PR group's carefully thought through plan.

Looks like Flora's (Flora's Bottle Shop) is indeed opening its wine shop and sandwich cafe at Montrose Collective, 888 Westheimer.

Over the weekend, Flora's updated their Instagram bio with the inclusion of Montrose Collective. The shop also posted an update to its page yesterday, as well as an Instagram story announcing their forthcoming retail shop and wine bar at Montrose Collective.

According to the Houston Press, Van Leeuwen opens Feb 23.

https://www.houstonpress.com/restaurants/a-new-kind-of-sports-bar-opens-van-leeuwen-montrose-debuts-soon-12868572

Special flavor will be available:

Quote

The third Houston scoop shop will debut with an exclusive flavor, done in collaboration with Houston celebrity chef, Christine Ha, owner of Xin Chao and The Blind Goat. The flavor, "Bananas for Cheese", is inspired by Ha's childhood snack, invented by her mother, that combined Laughing Cow cheese with banana slices. It was an effort to get Ha to eat bananas, which were her least favorite fruit. The new ice cream is made with a base of gouda and mascarpone cheeses blended with house-made banana jam and milk chocolate chips. It will be available at the new Montrose location as well as Ha's restaurants.

Flora's a wine retail shop and cafe / restaurant specializing in sandwiches. It will be located on the first floor of Montrose Collective's main hub at 888 Westheimer.

According to Culture Map Houston a Denmark fashion brand called Ganni is moving in to the Montrose Collective.....

https://www.ganni.com/us/home

https://houston.culturemap.com/news/fashion/04-13-22-ganni-houston-montrose-collective-juicy-couture-new-balance-hailey-bieber-emily-ratajkowski-steve-radom/

"Ganni is one of the few worldwide fashion brands to hold B Corp status. That designation denotes that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency, as well as ensuring employee benefits, charitable giving, good supply chain practices and input materials, and more".

Isn’t Museum District off Montrose considered a really good location?

It's a great area to live in. Not great at all for retail or restaurants. Which is personally depressing because I lived behind the Plaza Hotel many years ago when the original Montrose Butera's Deli was where the Glassell is now and the neighborhood was a lot more alive than it is now.

I still can’t believe that old Plaza Hotel location was vacant for nearly 30 years (from the early 80s to 2011). Such a great location. I would love to see more retail in this pocket. It’s almost a bit too quiet.

Although this is probably successful, I guarantee it would be way more successful if the city would rebuild that damn street already. I drove to Soto last week and legit wouldn't take any out of towners there because of how BAD the street is. It legit feels like a 3rd world country road. The buildings on lower westheimer are starting to look real nice, but the street condition just ruins the entire experience 🤬
